When was your first oil change...

I have 5200 miles on my 06 C55 and decided to change my oil. My service advisor was extremely surprised the fact that I'm changing my oil so soon. He was telling me that he wasn't sure about Mercedes but with Land Rover's it does more harm than good by changing the oil early...

No way it does more harm than good, unless there is some sort of "break in" oil being used in the car. I do not know if that is the case, but you might want to read your manual. I think Honda was/is the last brand to use a break in oil. It helps the seals and piston rings to seat properly.

I do not pay attention to the computer on oil changes, but I tend to go to 6,000 or 7,000 miles.

Absolutely, Fifth Ring is right, change your oil every 5,000miles with full synthetic in your MB. I do so on my C55 and it's just fine. No oil filter can work properly over as many miles as synthetic oil can theoretically work. It's just better practice to change your oil every 5K (full synthetic only) if you drive your car the way it should be driven.

you can buy a fluid evacuatior for 40 bucks and suck the oil out of the engine. Doing this with a filter change takes about 15-20 minutes and costs 1/3 what the dealership wants for a service. This lets you do the oil changes between the larger services.

I like the service adviser saying it does more harm than good to change the oil early! Thats comedy! And since when is it different from one brand to another? I guess Land Rover/Ford has new style internal comubstion engines that do not like clean oil!

2,000, 5,000, 10,000 continuing at 5,000 mile intervals. Car only has 10,800. The instructions from MB in the star service DVD instructs using the sunction method, but then lists using the drain plug (for the approx. 1.5qts. that can't be sucked out).

Best way, in my opinion (so don't flog me), is to use the drain method through both plugs (fore and aft of the cross member). Each time, my car has taken the exact 9qts fill requirement and measured 165mm on the dipstick.

That's like saying its unhealthy for your dog if you change the water in its bowl too frequently.

Some people do their first oil change very soon, like 1000 miles. Search the forum for break in methods, you should get several different opinions.

I drain and all the oil can come out if the car is tilted. Not a healthy practice, but I go slow with it.
