'05 C55 AMG
Green filters vs. K & N

Well as you can see from my previous threads i'm new to modding...Just trying to get as much info as i can before spending some serious lute...
For sure mods to come: Res. delete, '06 clk grill, flat hood emblem.
I eventually want to improve suspension (lowering springs, sway bars, strut tower brace) any recomendations???
OH AND OF COURSE, WHATS BETTER GREEN OR K&N???

What color do you like better? Red or Green? Flip a coin as they are both good filters. I prefer Green.

K&N and Green are equal.

Neither does anything that you'll notice (if you're lucky).

I don't like the long term reliability of K&N. I used to run them a long time ago & would find the gauze deteriorates over time, leaving growing openings for dirt to pass right through & get into your engine. On one particular turbo Mitsu I had, I found dirt marks right on the turbo's impeller after runing the K&N for a while. Needless to say, it came off...

Also, I know a few years ago a tuner buddy did an SAE dirt test to a few different filters when designing an intake system for BMW's, and the K&N's failed miserably, for very poor filtering ability when new, and then poor flow when old (and finally clogged with enough dirt to filter worth a damn).

I have no similar test data on the Green's, so can't help you there. I did try a set in my C55 and they seem to be holding up so far, but not many miles on them yet.

BTW, I put an ITG on that turbo car after the K&N came off, as they passed the same SAE dirt & flow tests with better results. Used one on my BMW with good results too, and I heard they now have a replacement element for Merc's, but I have no idea who sells them for AMG's.

Take all the makers HP claims with a big grain of salt though. Especially just for a drop in element.

I like the flip the coin or pick you favorite color idea. Both work fine. Both suck. There are lovers and haters. Just pick the cheaper set and you will be good to go.
