Supercharged E55 motor in C Class Wagon

Planning to install a supercharged E55 motor in a C Class (203) wagon. Any one done that or know of problems in doing so. I am told that the 203 C55 sedan uses a 209 chassis front subframe.

I was offered the same thing. Gintani has an E55K motor and they wanted $25K installed + my motor. I guess that was worth it for you but not for me.

I think there are definite risks in doing this. That is why I waited. Several MB tuners told me NOT to do this. You will need a brand new DME was what I was told. As for your warranty. So long.Good Luck.

Can the W203 tranny withstand the torque generated by an M113K?

Quicktwinturbo 11-17-2007 11:57 PM

Wouldn't it be alot easier to put a SC on 55 motor?
The swap won't be a drop in and drive off. What about the ECU? Tranny?

what an absurd price

i know someone doing this exact swap right now...PM me for details, it is top secret! :D

c32used 11-18-2007 02:47 AM

Will be a very fast car:eek:.........imagine the difference on a w203 which is a lighter car.... I say the 11/10s easy:bow:
Maybe I'll stay with my car if its financially feasible to do this swap and all works fine:naughty:

On youtube a guy grom UK put a SLR engine in a SLK55 and it spanked a Ferrarri Enzo :eek:which is in its class! Our car with more then C63 power and especially more TQ...a monster and definite C6 ZO6 killer without further modding engine! If its a good swap I might do it:naughty:. Just comes to show how much of a gear head I am not:nix:...should of thought of this before.:naughty::naughty:

Guys, before my PM box fills up with people wanting to know about this, it is definitely cost prohibitive...he spent $12k on the motor and tranny alone and then had to swap in a C55 front clip onto the car, the entire front clip!...not easy! He is only about half way done at this point and it will definitely take him a while to get it done... :D

once it is done, i will let him post more about it... :y

c32AMG-DTM 11-18-2007 09:07 AM

According to Motortrend's testing of each vehicle, back in the day:

E55 AMG curb weight: 3857
0-60 in 4.2
1/4mi in 12.39 @ 116.21

C32 AMG curb weight: 3540
0-60 in 4.77
1/4 mi in 13.24 @ 106.86

The C32 is going to gain some weight with the swap due to the net increase in engine weight (and it's 54/46 weight distribution will get even worse), so best guess, ballpark would be a savings of up to 200 lbs over an E55. For an average driver (i.e. not a professional test driver), it might be an 11 second car... what's the rule of thumb, 1/10th of a second for every 100 lbs? With some serious modding, it could be deep into the 11s, but I doubt it would touch 10 without nitrous.

So, $25k for the car, $25k for the engine swap, say $10k in mods... you've got a really quick 5 year old car with no warranty and no (or extremely limited) resale market, for 60 grand - not worth it IMHO. To me, this is the type of project a tuner undertakes as a "we did it because we could" project to show their chops, and then take it around to car shows essentially as a marketing piece.

+1

An awesome accomplishment and cool as hell to say you did it, but.......

Wait, didn't one of the sponsors post the exact specs of the trannys used between the different AMG cars? And the one in C55 is actually the most basic one and can't handle the full amount of torque that one found in a 55K can?

spr 11-18-2007 03:57 PM

sounds like not a bad deal if you already have a c55, can get the entire drivetrain 55k and electronics. :)

mig888 11-18-2007 06:27 PM

Funny stuff it seems like now everyone is an expert on this swap a brand new oem55k motor is over 38k from the dealer. A used motor in the 15 thousand mile range is good for about 16 to 18k. A very low mileage motor say in the 5 thousand mile and below is around 22 to 25k mark current market value. if you find one that is cheaper so be it and steal it but the market value is market value.

I dispise when people throw out stupid low numbers on what things truly cost. And if you got it that cheap be proud but thats why they are called deals, no warranty implied.

The swap.... activating the supercharger clutch to operate properly using factory components truly takes an expert not a spokesman. Thats only one of many things that need to be addressed. I forgot to mention by the time hes done on the swap between buying factory components and aftermarket labor he will be close or over 20k mark.

Do you care to share via PM how much? How many miles on it? If this doesn't come in under $16K, I going thru with my plans to grab an 05 SL65 with Renntech upgrades and put an SLR kit on it like this one. What do you think?

C Wagon/E 55 Supercharged Swap

Already have complete 2003 e55 car (including all electronics) and c320 wagon is on the way. Not worried about warantee or any of that stuff. Will be replacing complete drive train. What I don't know is whether front end (frame, subframe, inner panels, etc) provide enuf room for bigger motor.....ie, do I need a c55 front clip as someone mentioned?

Based on some MBUSA articles, the only reason AMG was able to "shoe-horn" this 55 motor into a C was to use the CLK front sub-frame. So yes, you will need either a C55 or standard CLK sub-frame.

DHMB 11-20-2007 01:03 AM

Thanks AMGSC. Any other thoughts and ideas greatly appreciated.

Corrosive 11-20-2007 01:41 AM

I can see why someone would want to do it, yet I agree w/ everyone and think its pretty expensive when you can just twin-charge for a lot less. (think back to that guy in dubai)

You will definietly need the C55 front clip to make this wrk. The front end of the 203 body is not long enuff for you to place the V8 motor in it. You perhaps would have been better off with a w209 CLK body(CLK320).

Give us his info so we can inquire.

619-249-5101 - Tim.

He will turbo anything. They can do almost everything in-house, too. If the E55 gets a turbo, he's the one I'm calling.
