key or ignition issue

I've brought my 02 c32 into the dealer 3 times now with the same issue:
I stick my key in and sometimes when I turn it nothing happens. This can occur 4-5 times, then magically the car will start. Other times the steering wheel starts to move down to memory position then moves back up and the car won't start. Other times the key won't even turn until I take it back out and reinsert it. Finally, sometimes there is no issue and it starts right up.

They found a sam module defective and replaced that. Still the same problem.

They then changed the steering wheel lock, still the same problem, though the action feels smoother when I twist the key.

I only have about 100 miles left on the warranty.

Anybody out there have the same issue?

As seems to be the case, forum members will probably have a better idea than my service techs as to what's going on.

Any suggestions will be appreciated as time is running out...

mine does it from time to time. usually only during a hot day where both ignition switch and the key are warm from sitting in my pocket. I think the problem has more to do with the key than anything.

Make sure the ECU connections are properly seated. Check the cables running into the ECU for cracks, cuts and also check for corrosion around the ECU and connectors. Let me know if it works.

Don't give up on going to the dealer. If you make it known that the issue is present before your warranty is up and they find the cause after your warranty expires the dealership should still honor the warranty.

I know this because I have run into similar situations on multiple occasions.

Same symptoms here, although it first manifested itself as an inoperable easy entry/exit memory. It was a software glitch within the Electronic Ignition Switch. Curiously, SDS found no fault codes related to the failure.

Dealership replaced the EIS per DTB P-B-80.57/38b.
Procedure is WIS document AR46.10-P-0810P.
Revised switch is part number 203 545 06 08.

My SA goodwilled it long after its warranty had expired. Good luck.

Thanks everybody. I go to the dealer tomorrow with about 90 miles left on the warranty.

I will check into the ignition switch and mention your other issues then let you know what comes of it.

Your comments about post-warranty settlement gives me some piece of mind.

I'm waiting to get my performance mods on after this 100K warranty finally expires. Can't wait.
