heated seats not working properly

I think my heated seats are messed up. For the drivers side I hit the button and it doesn't light up nor does it even heat up. I think I might need a fuse or heat pad. For the passenger side the light lights up on the button for the option one and the second light lights up for the second option but I think it only heats the back rest.

This happen to anyone else? If so what was the problem and cost associated with fixing it?

Quicktwinturbo 08-21-2008 01:27 AM

Seems like that happens alot on C-class.. I had mine fixed twice by dealer... they replaced bottom seats and so far so good..

Take it to dealer.. I'm sure its the heat pad.

DarkXerox 08-21-2008 03:07 AM

Yeah had my bottom driver's seat replaced under warranty last month. Same problem.

bud4ya 08-21-2008 09:03 AM

Their is/was an issue with the wires for the heated seats being pinched by the drivers side seat. Mine was fixed at dealer under warranty. I believe this is a very common problem.

I have my seat pad replaced twice under warranty a cpl of years ago. Now it's acting up again but unfortunately my current extended w won't cover it and it would cost me around $800 out of pocket. Would you mind explaining a bit about the wire location and how to look it up? Thanks.

c32used 08-21-2008 11:36 PM

lol...Seems like this is so common lately its funny my drivers side went bad a few months ago and I need to take it in before my warrantee goes out...

+1 :zoom:

They fixed mine under Warranty!!!

bud4ya 08-22-2008 09:48 AM

I am not sure of the exact location but take a look under the driver seat and check to see if any wires are pinched or have been pinch by the seat going back and forth.

Thanks I'll check it out. I vacuum my interior every weekend and in order to do that I have to move the front seats back and forth.

based on your car MY shouldn't you be out of warranty by now?

bud4ya 08-22-2008 11:08 AM

You will have to see what your in service date was for the car. It may have been in 03 which would put your car out of warranty.

Others including myself have an extended warranty that mirror the factory warranty except wear parts like brakes tires etc. So just because some got it fixed under warranty that does not mean it was a factory warranty that the car orginally came with.

Let us know how you make out

I thought I had the best extended warranty through Mercury Platinum. But turned out that they wouldn't cover it eventhough the director of service at my dealer fought for it.
What kind of extended warranty do you have?

bud4ya 08-22-2008 11:41 AM

I am sorry to hear that. This is the reason no one buys extended warranties. When you buy it they say oh everything is covered until they need to fix it. If I was you I would take a look closely at your contract. I am not sure what you have for coverage but it seems something like this should be covered under a Plat plan. A lot of times they just say no and hope you go away. Does not hurt to look at the contract and fight it depending if you have elec coverage.

My warranty is direct from Mercedes. When the car was purchased a 2 year extended warranty through MB was also bought.

Well that sucks but try again cause I recently tried to get my drivers' side lower heated seat fixed and they tried to say(the warranty) that it was installed as aftermarket even though they fixed it once before:crazy:. But the issue was that my SA didn't know it was standard on atleast the 2002 C32 model...so I need to take it back to have it fixed before warranty expires...

bud4ya 08-22-2008 01:46 PM

+1 my buddy is in the insuarnce field and he said it is standard to deny just about every claim :bs:. 90% of people say ok and never call back. The other 10% push and ususually get what is owed to them.

Oh we've tried alright. Early on, another member in this forum had his pad replaced by the same extended warranty company, but when I brought up the fact, they said the agent made a mistake by letting it happened.

The problem is, the heat element is embeded into the cushion, thus it's not covered since they won't replace cushions. This happened a year ago.

As bad as it may sound I have always tip the service manager at the dealership I am bringing the car to. Seems to get things passed in circumstances like this if you know what I mean. Sometimes the SM just needs to explain it a little different :)

But in your case it sounds like they did what they could. It is this nit picky :bs: these insurance companies use not to cover things. they promise you teh world when you buy the warranty.

I have the same problem in my '04 CLK 55. Both seat heaters are inop.
The dealership says it's going to cost me right around $2000 to replace both heating pads. I've got the diagnose codes from the diagnose computer, but I can't understand the codes.
Does the price sound right?
Can anyone here help me decode the readout to make sure I'm not being duped. The Service department in my area has a terrible reputation and I'm always weary about what they tell me.
Thanks in advance.

Quicktwinturbo 10-08-2008 04:53 AM

Well here I go again... My driver side butt warmer doesnt work again... sigh

Dealer replaced it TWICE with the new one and for some reason, they keep crap out.

redfarsi 10-08-2008 11:30 PM

how much does this cost cause winter is coming up and id like my ass to be warm at least lol

hatchy 10-09-2008 02:00 AM

It's broken on my car too, but I am out of warranty. I'll check it out tomorrow and see if I can fix it. Sounds like an easy fix?
