I wouldn't buy a E39, getting too old and too expensive to maintain. My best friend has one with the extended warranty and maintenance plan however, it's a 2003. Those cars are just getting too old and TOO expensive if things go wrong and things will go wrong. Just by putting an M badge on it, jacks the price up of parts even if it's a 5-series normal part.

Ya they say x3 on cost over a regular BMW for repairs. So if my 540 had an issue and it cost $300 the M would cost $900.00

I know they are getting old but for a car that is 6-8 years old and can run the 1/4 in high 12's stock that is pretty decent. The ones with the lower miles you have to worry about the seals drying out I would think

I know the E39 M5 has it all it seems like. Speed, handling and stick

E55 is not a true "drivers car", but most people dont know the true meaning of performance all they know is HP,1/4 mile times. I love the overall feeling of the M5, balance, braking, steering, it is a true drivers car, for people that actually know what to do with such a machine and can appreaciate its capabilities. I personally do not wish to no longer always push or test my vehs capabilities, hence why i like the E55 for some quick simple spirited drives.

Personal opinion, I'd rather pay a high price for a Porsche than to pay a high price for an M or AMG car.

I know I let that C32 set all winter or basically whenever it was not sunny. The guy that bought the car is on this board and was floored on how spotless the car was. He asked the same thing if I every drove it.

Believe it or not I can not find a dam E39 M5 that has not had some sort of paint work within 100-150 miles of where I am. It is really pissing me off but at least people are being honest. I mean it has 4 doors, pretty big back side for the kids, 400 HP, 6 speed and a V8. All things I like. I am going to keep the search going There is a nice E55 in town that is a 2005 with like 18K miles for 38K OBO. I did not think that was to bad. I really want a stick again though.

Hold out for the stick, or you will sell the auto right after you get it.

- 1, think about that stick when you're sitting in traffic or when BMW tells you it needs a new clutch, bearing or pressure plate. I hope you like rowing back and forth. Grab a low mileage 05 or 06 211 E55 and you'll never look back (except for the M5 that you just passed at warp speed). All the guys on the E 55 forums love theirs and almost every one is in the 11s with light mods. Ask Aleksandar, he loves his and it is majorly quick. Who cares about the twisties, who's racing on the street like that anyway?? Not here in Chicago for sure. Its all stoplight to stoplight.
