C32 vs Mustang GT, G35

I was driving home from Walmart with a friend in my car and came across the new body style Mustang GT. It was late, there was no traffic, and we were bored, so I decided to give him the business. I got on it a little bit and he noticed. I slowed down and we went from a slow roll and I pulled on him. That ended quickly as we came up to a red light.

At the red light, he was revving at me, so I assumed, again, it was on now from a dig. We did a slow roll (5mph?) and gunned it. I only pulled about a car or two through two gears because of my major traction issues in first gear. In fact, I don't go WOT in first because of these issues. I just feather it as much as I can.

I wanted out so I made a u-turn to jump on the highway and head home. The GT Mustang decided to follow me and do the same. Here we go again......So as we merged onto the highway, he flies past me on the left. I'm like I maintain my speed and he eventually slows down for a race from a roll. I started at the top of 2nd gear and we did a three honk. I immediately started pulling away. This was a short race that, by the end of my wrapping out third gear and barely into fourth, had pulled at least a bus if not more. My friend rolled down the window and gave him the thumbs up as he drove by.

On a separate incident, I am in my car with two buddies. I see a G35 with rims, exhaust, and a slight body kit...guy with his gf. At the red light, I get on it a little bit and he hears my exhaust and catches up. He then downshifts and guns it. I follow suit....though it was more of a tease as after my first initial punch at the top of first when i pulled a car despite getting a bit sideways, I just went in and out of WOT as his car wasn't that fast.....and now the good part...

at the following red light, he gets in the lefthand turning lane and I'm continuing straight. He opens the passenger window (where his gf is sitting) and yells out at me "Sorry. I don't want to embarrass you." I am absolutely shocked at what he says , and I return with "Unless you've got a turbo kit, you've got no chance."

It has made for some really good laughs with my car buddies, especially my friend who owns a turbo'd G35.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that all races occurred in Mexico. No traffic at all. Open road for as far as you can see.

Mustangs are easy to walk, but are cheap to tune and you rarely come across a stock one nowadays. G35s are porkers, you are correct unless they are turbo'd
And all this took place in Mexico correct?

My brother has a G35 coupe and he was amazed at how fast I was able to run away from him at a light and then from a roll.

Josh, As soon as you get your tune your car is going to be insane. I dont see many C32's at the track but Evan's SRT-6 is running 11.8's?? IF you have slicks your car will be a mid to low 12 after the tune. more likely low 12's.

Those TT G35's are ticking time bombs if they have stock bottom end. Now if it is a Cosworth build motor with an APS TT G35 thats another story.

Headers, plugs, and wires should be installed within two weeks with the tune shortly following....and I am definitely going to bring it to the track. but i do NOT have slicks yet.....need to find myself a cheap set.....any recommendations? My last trap of 109 was pretty good before my upcoming mods, and with slicks, 109 is good for high 12s. With a custom tune, headers, and plugs and wires, and of course tires, i don't think mid to the lower 12s are out of the question......

yes....and Evan's car is is ridiculous! I wonder what other mods he is planning!

yah, i have raced a turbo'd G35 in the past. there is actually a youtube video of it....it was pretty close b/c he had no traction and b/c this is when my intake was choking b/c of my nasty filters i didn't clean for 3 years lol. he traps about 110 though. He is pretty much maxed out and is saving up for an interesting RB swap into this G35 to replace that VQ motor

I was surprised to see those Xfires weigh in at just over 3000 pounds.

yes it is ridiculous! Mike (Hooleyboy) my friend Evan's (cruzinquick) SRT is running 11.8s at like 117 with a 178 ASP, Tune, Manifolds, Intake, and Y-pipe on DRs. pretty impressive IMO considering that we run on 91 octane (i think Evan does...do you Evan?) in AZ at relatively high DAs..

i post one or two a week in the Kill Section but no one comments. I usually get videos too. If you guys want races, I have the means to get these with stories and vids......Cobras, Supras, Camaros, boosted E36s and boosted E46s.....i just got challenged to a big single turbo'd GST on 17 lbs of boost or something this weekend....maybe i'll post a vid of that when it goes down

You know what it is? I seem to only read the C32 section of these forums for some reason. I need to venture out lol. But damn, if you have all those videos, that's hot.

Good kills story, I killed a new mustang GT with headers and who knows what else the other day... Very funny when we went because his car was so loud when we got on it, and I'm running stock C32 exhaust(read: whisper quiet). Can't wait until my K&Ns arrive, and my pulley goes on tomorrow

There is one flaw in your story though... redlights mean go in Mexico... I should know since that's where my race was

Yeah Evans SRT6 is crazy fast he can launch this car like nobody's business. I go with him to the track on his NHRA days for the best track prep. and sure enough thats when I ran my fastest time 12.94 with no preloading the driveline. Just a 500rpm launch

I just bought a pair or cheapo $99 rims of tire rack 16x7.5 to use with slicks. I'm so sick of wheel spin. It cost me $220 out the door for 2 wheels. IMO You will want to go with a 16inch wheel as you get more options for drag radials.

Would look pretty ghetto with 18's in the front lol.

Some of the fastest cars on this site use 16inch rims when drag racing. You want to have a bigger side wall with Drag radials to allow the tire to flex when launching giving you extra bite off the line. You simply cant get good side wall flex with an 18 wheel. Not to mention there are no DR's at spec out to fit 18 inch wheels

You could get an 275x40x18 but the C55 calls call for a 35 side wall on 18's. Its just better to go with a 255x50x16. Going this route lets you have more options when buying DRs Micky Thompson has them in this size along with Hoosier and a few others. I think Micky Thompson makes a 275x40x18 and thats about it.

The 16 inch Wheels I have for Drag Racing only weigh 19lbs and my stock wheels weight 29lbs. I will pass on the looks for a record pass at the strip.

I went to Tire Rack and shopped under a 2005 C240. Then I selected 16 inch wheels that were 16x7.5. Evan has old E-class wheels on his STR-6 and they fit fine. Tires you will want to run on these are 255x50x16 Hoosier & Micky Thompson both make these tires in this size. I used a 35 offset too, That is the current offset my cars wheels have on them now.

+1

I'm looking to do the same thing this spring... just don't have the weather yet to justify purchasing now. Was looking at the following:

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...All&sort=Brand

Pretty damn cheap, when you think about it - should help with 60' and ET, keep in mind this set-up will likely hurt trap speeds a bit, AFAIK.

Well... I disagree; not that you'd go rollin' around that way all the time, but at the track (only, or just to and from) people will definitely "get-it."

Not to mention, even if you did sport them on the street to and from the track, anyone who knows about racing would realize what was up - might make 'em think twice about racing you from the stoplight

I haven't ran them yet, but I guessing a 12.5 or 12.6. The biggest thing for me is I will be able to launch the car at 1500 more RPMs than my current launches. When I race now I launch at idle (500rpms???) If I launch at a higher RPM ESP kicks in or I just spin the tires for 200 feet.

The slicks will grip 100 times better than street tires. Honestly I cant wait to bring the car up to 2000rpms and just drop the hammer and not worry about wheels spin.
