Most big auto chain stores check code for free. All you have to do is go in and tell the you have a CEL and they will read it for you.

Check the gas cap...
I was told that if you put the key in ignition for long time, it will trigger CEL as well..

Its not the gas cap, that is the first thing I checked. The mileage is way too low (20k) for it to be cats or o2 sensors. I'm guessing evap. or something. Oh well we shall see, i searched but it seems like C55s don't throw CELs that often...

i had my CEL go off a couple months back, i called up the dealership and they said it could be the gas cap (stock response).

the code that came up was P0141, i think... it was for "o2 sensors" but in fact that was not the problem

the benz tech said it was some air pipe that was loose or needed to be replaced (under warranty, but it was like only $45 for the part i think) ... i ended up taking it to the dealership 2 or 3 times cuz as soon as i left the dealer the light went on again .. apparently the tech didn't fully tighten it the first time. anyways, it wasn't a driving hazard, just really annoying the drive w/ the CEL light on!

anyways, best of luck to you, let us know what the diagnosis is...

I have that code too. I have been driving with it for like 6 months now. I asked the dealer about it when I went to get my service done. The guy told me its $130 to hook up to star. I told him what the problem is but he still said u gotta go to the shop and they gotta hook you up so I told him thanks. Anyways let us know what it is, i'm interested especially cause I've got that too.

Get a code reader, and don't let your wife put it away somewhere and not remember where it was.

Mine came on a few times b/c of charcoal canister purge valve, then the last time the dealership replaced the entire fuel tank, charcoal canister and sending units.

i know its usually for other cars it means the pcv valve is loose. Its usually for emissons, doesn't really hurt the car. i would check to see if you have any loose hoses in your car. Sometimes they come loose.

Where is the pcv hose located?

Thanks but In the DIY he states that his check engine came on because of IAT sensor. My check engine engages becuase of fuel leak/evap system/ gas cap. They all fall under one code.
