Overhead console buzzing!
I have searched around and the tell tale sign of this unit going bad seems to be a low buzzing noise which mine is currently doing. I have it unplugged and the was informed by the dealer that this unit costs 580.00 bucks. I have found one on Ebay for next to nothing but I am wondering if this unit is VIN specific, The only difference I have seen on the used ones is that some have the Teleaid button and some don't. I was also told if the Overhead console is bad it can keep your Navigation fan running 24/7, So I am wondering if the used part would also have to come from a car that had Navigation?? Any help would be greatly appreciated on this!

Update!
I called the dealer today and the unit is vin specific, The parts guy told me there are 5 different part numbers for my year which is going to make finding a used one a pita!

The buzzing you hear is probably the overhead climate control sensor fan. I don't think it was present on 2003 and later cars. Make sure you get the correct overhead console. IT does not matter if the teleaid button is there. It will still work. The used part does not need to come from a car with navigation.

Thanks for the information! I will be picking up a used one asap then!

make sure your used one is from a 2000-2002 c class.
