But honoustly guys how can you spend this amount on a car when you are not even 25 ? This asks for some explaining.
For myself I had a good income but I would have ruined myself financially buying such a car until a couple of years ago. Now I am 35 and if you wonder what I am doing that enables me to afford such a wonderfull car look at www.diberget.be

Hey bverotti,

did you get affected by the huge diamond heist in Antwerp? I heard something about it in the newspaper recently. Most of my family in South Africa deal in diamonds, and some in NY too. I might get into it myself soon.

All-
I am interested in what all of you do for a living, it seems as if the majority are between the 25-30 year old age range and are doing quite well if they have a C32 and a decent place to live (which is hard to tell). Can you all state your occupations, Prasith32, what kind of company did you sell?

I am assuming the 17 and 18 year olds had their parents buy the car for them (which is fine). Just trying to get an idea how all these young people afford these 50K+ cars.

Thanks

Me too. Haven't been there for a while. Was going to go down there to get my cats cleaned but just don't have the time.

As far as your cd changer he can probably hook you up!?

30 yrs old
Sales
Fortune 100 Energy Management and Facility Management Company.
Considering creating a start up tech co.

My view on this age range doing quite well is this - Between the ages af 25-35, there are 2 segments, those who have really hit it big (like this group), and those who barely get by.
Oh, and for those who's parents bought there car, GOOD FOR YOU... Tired of folks being down on this. I hope I can buy my kids a car like this!

What's this have to do with anything???

I know a dozen brokers who would call anyone an idiot for buying a car like this outright instead of putting $$'s into the market.

On top of that, many of us are in occupations where a lease is most beneficial from a tax perspective.

In this thread, I read about an 18 yr old high school senior busting his *** to make the payments. Good for you man!!! Now that's commitment... I would bet my C32 you will be a success in life!

I bought the car and paid in full last year (24 yrs. old). I also have money in the market, so I would like to talk to your broker friends who would call me an idiot. Most brokers don't know ***** anyway, they're job is to just sell. Asset allocation my ***, the analysts and the PMs do all the real brain work. Leasing is the best option for business owners so they can take the benefit of expensing monthly payments and spreading out the sales tax over the life of the lease. For non-business owners, leasing just allows you to get a more expensive car with lower monthly payments. I like knowing I own my car even if I only hold on to it for 3-4 years,

Boo2:

It's only math...If your only paying 5%-7% interest with MBC, I think 9 out of 10 times you will do better than that in the market, (if you know what youre doing) (say 10-12%), so why would you throw away all that money on the car, instead of making the money work for you. And Leasing IS better from a tax perspective for Salespeople. Especially here in Canada.

You see a hundred arguments on Leasing vs buying. The main one being why do you want to own a depreciating asset. Oh well, to each their own. Back to my original point, those who bought there car vs those who lease, or those who finance should't pass judgment like you do in saying that it's just a way to get a better car at a lower monthly payment. That's narrowminded. I can assure you that I for one have the financial capacity to own my car if I wish, I just see it as a foolish investment for ME. What you do is your choice and I respect that.

Sure, do the math. That concept works when you leverage a PURCHASE. A depreciating asset still has value at the end of a time period. Run the numbers again using 61k in cash over 5 years. To make the calculation fair, use the total 61k to finance the lease payments - using a 34% tax rate the first year and a 28% capital gains rate for subsequent years. Use 10% down and a monthly lease PMT of $750 (mbusa lease calc.). If you run the numbers correctly you will see that a 12% market return still won't beat 70% depreciation on a 57k car (I gave you 61k since that is the out-the-door price including tax).

I agree with the salesman situation. Since i'm not an accountant, I can only assume that you are able to expense lease payments like a corporation. Either way, is doesn't matter as long as its fiscally sound.
