I have heard many complaints from Range Rover owners about dealer cost and reliability, then when they try to work on it themselves it required many special tools that makes you spend similair cost as a dealor visit. Porshe owners have complained about the service costing close to a grand each visit. My wife wanted a Porshe SUV, I wanted one too but in the end it was a risky buy. Yes its a Porshe and yes the Porshe/ Range rover look better than my wifes ML, but I have never spent more than $380.00 in any of my dealer visits in any of my Mercedes and I only have to take the ML in every 13,000 miles. Thats my favorite part! I'm not trying to sell the ML on you because there is plenty other good SUVs out there coming from Japan. If you can afford a 2009+ with warranty I would go for it but sell it once the warranty ends.

Tires and brakes - as I mentioned. They only thing I recall that was warranty related was a squeak in the power drivers seat. It was remedied quickly. Since we bought new tires from them they do free tire rotation - so my wife brings the truck in periodically for that. I perform the basic maintenance myself so I can't comment too specifically on what it would cost to have them perform all routine scheduled maintenance. My advice would be to call the dealer and ask. When we were making the purchase decision i asked the dealer and my recollection is they were not out of line with what other car dealers charge...and almost certainly less than what Mercedes charges for any scheduled service on one of our cars.
