Aftermarket Battery

Getns,

My battery finally gave out. What aftermarket battery's are you guys using with good reviews? I know there is alot of subpar performing units out there and want to avoid those. Thanks.

I'm not sure, I'd like to know too. I've always heard to only use mercedes brand batteries in these cars, which of course means paying the dealer markups too.

well to get a decent battery you are gonna pay close to what our battery costs from the dealer $150+ but what you are getting is a smaller lighter performance battery. Will they last as long IDK but several members are running Optima gel series (Red I believe). Search and you will find threads already on this subject.

No reason for a Mercedes battery. I put a Duralast version in about 6 years ago and still going strong although I usually change them out before they go bad which means I will be changing it soon. It is the same size as the original so no figment issues. Cost me about $85 back then, who knows now.

That's what I found when mine started acting up. I also figured that if the OEM battery could last 7 years in Arizona heat with long periods of sitting uncharged they couldn't be too bad quality-wise.

Looks like the popular one on the forum here is the OEM from roadside assistance. When mine goes out I'll be going this route

Which Optima are you using? Just went on Optima's site and on there they do not even list any Mercedes vehicles for fitment.

take the bigest one they are half the size on normal benz battery, half the size for 50% more cranking amps, that mod gave me a spot to put an expension reservoir when I closed the intercooler circuit.

I've been running the optima red top for years. Light weight, no problems.

I just replaced mine with an OEM battery. 2 year warranty with full replacement for $165 from Stealership. Advance Auto and Autozone was $150 plus. My OEM battery lasted 8 years so I'm happy with it. Parts.com has the OEM for around $130 but not sure of shipping cost.

Braille GU1R Lithium Ion is in my immediate future 6.6lbs and 800CCA! Not cheap though @ $500 + though, but the weight savings will be awesome!

Like Tump said, an Optima Red Top is probably your best option for a year-round lighter (but adequate) battery. Personally, I have no issues paying more for a summer setup that will shed 40+ lbs

Tump43 posted the pn for the red top he is using in a post years ago, a search should find it quickly.
