If cost is the same and you're only getting one (tamper or regular), get a set of tamper proof. Every so often you never know when you run into a problem and need the tamper proof ones.

the tamper-proof are more expensive and I think I found a good Craftsman set of regular ones at a great price. I'll get those and buy specific tamper-proof bits/sockets if I find I need them.
PS. Impressed my father-in-law by knowing what a torx driver is, when I inquired if he had a set I could borrow. I gave you boys all the credit, of course. (Thanks, Internet!)

Did you get the torx sockets too (I believe they are formally called E-Torx)? Those are required for a lot of engine work, like the fairly common leaking valve cover gaskets (simple job).
I'd just stick with the regular torx bits too. Also, it seems to me that the security torx kits I've seen typically just have the smaller sizes, but a wider range of the torx bits is preferred, to make sure you have all the bases covered. There are some of the larger fasteners on the car that are torx.
Just be glad you don't need the triple square bits and sockets - those are pretty common on VAG cars, ie. VW and Audi (Bentley too?!?).

F*** the VW stuff!! I have to reseal my TDI injection pump this weekend and one of the bolts requires this stupid special triangular socket, for ONE BOLT! So I had to buy the special socket and it costs me $50 after shipping, so annoying...

I bought a set of triple square bits after I got my A4. My neighbour needed to change the battery on his Touareg and couldn't do it without the triple square bits. Crazy.
But then I understand that for late model BMWs, one has to use the factory computers to 'introduce' a new battery to the car. Ridiculous!

Exactly. The factory computers need to do some bullsh*t to ensure the battery is properly recognized by the car's electronics. So you can't just pop down to the auto parts store for a $100 battery and swap it yourself. It's more like a $500 process. Nuts.

Nice dog
That's a nice set, should have all of the torx bits you'll need. You may need some larger E-torx if you start working on suspension components, as those bolts are very large, but you probably aren't going to be doing any of that anytime soon anyway.
Don't forget to get yourself a nice set of regular sockets too! Not everything on the car is torx lol
