Replacement Key Fob Case
My key works fine, its just that the case is cracking on the un lock section of the key. Can I just replace the case (I see lots of them on Ebay) and transfer the internals and have it still work properly?

Certainly, one of several videos…

Yep. Add the AMG case while you're at it

Ya it's expensive cuz it's rare. You'll see nearly no one with them besides me and a handful of others.

Speaking of, so my fob's internals will just switch right over into the newer style fob? I've switched old to old twice before but never knew the new chrome fob's would also work. :y
I was going to get one of the chrome ones but it didn't appear the internals would fit. Can you post a pic of the one you bought? |

This style key with the triangle panic button does not come apart like the previous keys. What you bought is worthless to anyone except whoever owns the car it belongs to.

Mine doesn't have a triangular panic button, but I appreciate the constructive advice. :bs:

Ok but you posted a picture of one with a triangle button.

Ok, and the internals from the old black plastic style do not just go into the chrome key with the round panic button. The chip has to be removed from the circuit board of the old one and put onto the chrome key circuit board for it to work.

Interesting. You were the one sounding unsure if it would work or not. I'm just saying how it works from experience. Not sure what you take as a passive aggressive retort but I'm not trying to come across that way.

Well, I for one am glad for the back and forth. Otherwise I wouldn't have learned about the chip thing and the triangle and circular panic button. I would have ended up either buying the wrong one or the right one and not know to transfer the chip. Speaking of this chip, does one just remove it by hand and replace into the new fob? ; )

Yes just pull out, but be careful cause they over 10 years old and sometimes the chip ur changing to new fob might break, and if it does it won't start ur car.

And to Rocman, posting that the fob I mistakenly linked to is "worthless to anyone except who the car belongs to" is simply an *******ish reply. If that isn't obvious to you, get help for those around you. :y |

While I agree the redundant threads get old fast, after 11-12 years, hasn't just about everything been covered at some point and time by now? Should we just leave this sub-forum open for searching only from here on out? :nix:

That remark I made was nothing ill toward you but simply irritates me how people try and sell them off to people knowing that they are good for nothing and taking advantage of people.

Well, the plot just thickened. eBay auction showed a lot of roughly 12 round panic button fob's so I bought two. Both showed up with triangular panic buttons. Am I correct, along with Rocman, that these are useless to me? :smash:
|
Did you get the AMG backing? Cuz that only fits the triangular one anyway
