My 300 Dollar AMG
21 Attachment(s)
So my sister calls me up tells me her father in laws benz doesn't run and wondering how much is it worth 2002 C32 AMG with 192k, she told me it needs fuel pumps or something like that. The junkyard was giving them 200 dollars so i said 300 and i'll pick it up. Picked it up take it home with clean title. This thing was rough, just a quick look around needs rear tires, interior was disgusting but for 300 bucks i just couldn't pass it up.
Heres the pictures i got sent after i found out it was a AMG thats when i said i'll take it Attachment 442495 Attachment 442496 Attachment 442497 So i get it home and had to clean it i dont understand how someone can kill a car like this, people shouldn't even own a car like this.. Attachment 442498 Attachment 442499 Attachment 442500 Attachment 442501 Attachment 442502 Attachment 442503 Then i cleaned it up forgot to take interior pics but its damn clean now i am impressed Attachment 442504 Attachment 442505 When i got it both the fuel pump lids and sending unit lid where off for about 8 months, This is when i was starting to think i made a mistake as the pumps are 900 dollars . First i had to change the battery as it was dead then i decided to put it back together and to test the power at the pump to see what the issue is. So i get it to crank and its reading battery voltage keep cranking and it starts:eek: So i got excited haha Attachment 442506 All said and done i decided to register and plate the car i drive it to work and i am pumped that it even made it, But that morning i filled up with gas. When i get to work i smell gas and then notice it leaking bad. Take the seats out again and there is a hole in the fuel pump lid now it makes sense why it needs a pump assembly. But im not spending that kind of money so i epoxy seal the hole and its been good  First thing i did was oil change as the oil sticker said 172k and it has 192k:facepalm: Attachment 442507 Attachment 442508 I do my trusty Rotella T6 Attachment 442509 Heres the rear tires that where on it 215/45/17:facepalm: should be 245/40/17, fronts are new but no name junk will replace when they wear out Attachment 442510 Attachment 442511 new ones Attachment 442512 Also first time driving i press the brakes and had horrible vibration so i machined the rotors and changed the brake fluid all better now Attachment 442513 Cleaned the air filters and the throttle body you can see it was well kept up Attachment 442514 I've been driving it daily 50 miles a day for 2 weeks now and love it, its damn fast im surprised. It still needs some stuff like front control arms making a clunk but whatever for the price i have in this car i love it. Gets 22-23mpg if you're easy on it Attachment 442515 I'll update when i do other stuff to it..Is there anything i should watch out for or should i sell it, not even sure if anyone wants to buy a high mileage AMG. |

But some more recent pictures almost got 23mpg going to work this morning
Attachment 442483 Is the AMG side badge original or should i order the V6 Kompressor Attachment 442484 Also has factory benz all weather floor mats Attachment 442485 cup holder works great but a pretty dumb design Attachment 442486 A small update so i didn't even notice but the spare is the AMG wheels so now i just need to find 1 more front and 2 rears for cheap. Attachment 442487 recently the blower motor has been squeaking so i took it apart blew out the motor ( lots of dust) and lubed the bearings so far no noise  Attachment 442488 Attachment 442489 Decided to put in the walbro fuel pump because of the extended crank after sits, thinking the fuel pump is not holding the pressure in the lines but that didn't fix it. might order the fuel filter assembly and see if that helps. Attachment 442490 Attachment 442491 Also im waiting on the upper control arm bushings as the ones in the car are shot, should be able to install them Friday. So I put in the new MAHLE Original KL 82 Fuel Filter and it fixed the extended crank issue so im stoked:thumbup: I think the orginal is in there which is crazy. I think the car feel much faster now. Also changed the upper inner control arm bushings, job was pretty easy to my surprise. No more clunking noise, the car drives super solid now. Attachment 442492 Attachment 442493 you can see daylight through them haha Attachment 442494 |
I can't believe you found this for so freaking cheap! Just the command will yield that much. Unbelievable and congrats!
Also, where exactly was the hole you patched on the fuel pump. I have the same problem and can't narrow down where it is leaking. |
Wow that's amazing that you can buy a car like that for 300bucks.
Great job so far, and rescuing an AMG hehee. Needs some stock Alloys that's for sure, those are ugly. Red calipers also look crap. |
Bloody Hell, buy of the year. Well done.

I wondered if you'd make the jump over from the 'tex? Welcome.
My usernames are similar from here to there, but this apex isn't "Accidental". I love how you've basically saved this from the dead and are dailying it now. After all of the mechanical items you've done have you buffed those headlights yet. Go with the 3M kit if and when you do. |
I can't buy a set of used tires for that price, more so a full car.
|
Great story... car ended up with the right person! Hope you can get the wheels for it, and keep driving it!

This is the most exciting thread I've seen in a while! Awesome work man!! And for the price! Holy smokes!!
This will be front page forum news soon :) Subscribed |
The thread title piqued my interest, and totally thought it was some sort of typo (maybe $3,000 instead). Never would have guessed to read such a great story!!
Congrats on such a great find and good job on all the work you've done to restore this car!! (This made my Monday morning oh so much better :)) |

Mine was on the drivers side fuel pump connector, looks like the ground PIN got hot and melted a small hole in the white plastic cap. I basically put JB weld and its been great.
Anyhow, again, congrats! You are very lucky. I paid $4k plus a 2004 Volvo C70 for mine and I felt like I got a good deal. Your deal blows us all out of the water! :) |

But since the op had a similar issue, I wanted to see where his originated from and he responded. |
Love this thread. Can't believe it has no warning lights on in the dash.
Those AMG badges on the fenders are not original, I'd personally go with the original V6Kompressor ones. |
WOW! That's a great buy. It cleaned up nicely too. Congrats!

can anyone tell me what this button does https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...cc016a8da5.jpg Also is there a way to sync the heat on both sides so i dont have to press each side to 60 or to 80. |
That button is for the activated charcoal filter.
|
I don't know of a way to sync the HVAC buttons all the time on the C32. My other cars do, but not this one.
You were asking for potential problem areas. Here's a short list on my research. If the radiator is a Valeo, you need to get a Behr. It can kill the tranny. The supercharger air cooler can leak, filling the intake with gunk. The car will run fine, but lose coolant over time. Make sure your pulleys are all good under the hood. Take the belt off and give them a spin and check for play. Change all the fluids and bleed the brakes. If any leaks at the trans connector, replace the connector (cheap). Otherwise it kills your TCU by wicking fluid in. Check all the electric items. Seat heaters fail often ( replace with aftmarket sheets), and a lot of motors, like for headrests, may give up. A scan with SDS will uncover things you may not know about, like HVAC motors, seat heaters etc. See if a member near you has one. |
Cool!

When I clicked on this link I was expecting a car rusted to hell. Congrats on this great find, if you like the car so much you should keep driving it.
|
$300!?! That is amazing! Looking forward to seeing this completed. What a find.
|
Nice, you got some change in there too :D.
