C36, C43 Transmission

Does the 97 C36 and the C43 use the same transmission? I know they are both 5-speed autos, but are they both driver adaptive ( I know the C43 is )? Still trying to decide between a local C36 and a C43 in TX. The C36 is overpriced and dealer is a ***** whereas the C43 is a one owner and serviced by the dealer selling it, only bad point is it's a helluva drive to get it.

All 722.6 transmissions have adaptive memory. The 722.6 was MB first fully electronically controlled transmission, even with all of its problems it’s by far one of the best transmission out there.

This transmission can adapt to a variety of driving situations. One example, driving up or down a hill the transmission will hold a shift longer to avoid shift hunting, shifting back and forth between two gears. The best adaptation is Drivers style, spirited driving will allow later shifts and more.

Both models use 722.6 transmissions. I would buy the one with the most documented service history, especially on the transmission. Price and condition is another factor. Witch ever one you decside on, have a pre purchase inspection. Done

Good luck.

Pre-purchase inspection is why I am leaning toward the local C36. I have a local mechanic who doesn't charge to test drive it and put it up on the rack and check it out. But I am not gonna overpay. He is asking $17k for a 97 C36 w/80k miles. Reality is $14k for it. Especially with gas prices rising as AMG's do not get the best gas mileage.
