Wheel Bearing Replacement

Forgot to mention also, the front drivers side wheel bearing is toast on my car as well. I replaced the tierods several months ago which has very similar symptoms. The wheel has a little play laterally when on a lift. The bad bearing dosen't have as much play as the worn tierods do but it's similar. I don't notice this driving at all but when turning left to right at very low parking lot speeds you can hear a small clink noise with a little feeling in the steering wheel.

OEM bearings are about $40-60. I found a replacement on autohauz for $25....I hope they are decent at that cost LOL.

Just keeping all informed.

Myself and an MB mechanic where checking it out. I asked about ball joints and he explained to me that the wheel would have play vertically when pushed from the bottom. The current symptom is that the wheel has a tiny bit of play laterally. As if the lug nuts where just slightly loose. I grabbed the wheel at 3 and 9 and with force could feel a tiny bit of movement pulling each side towards me. Pushing straight up from the bottom of the tire had no movement. My mechanic said that if pushing up from the bottom of the tire upwards it would indicate a possible ball joint......I've got the bearings and plan on installing them tomorow morning. I hope your wrong LOL.

I guess the same reason I wake up everyday and punch myself in the *****!

They are non-blower related issues so I guess I just had it comming. Front rotors are 90% toast at this point also....I also have to do all this stuff myself around work scedule as I can't afford to pay big$ for labor. I need a drink.

Still love the car though. It's sick. I hope to get a 1/4mile track vid if I can get everything fixed before the track closes this year.

Buying a cheapo 4cyl car for the winter soon. Kinda looking foward to it...

Well, I changed the wheel bearings a few weeks ago as the thought to be problem. It wasn't the problem. Stock bearings looked good at 60k FYI. At least I know how to replace them easily now....

It ended up being the tierod. I had the tierods replaced about 6 months ago so we figured it couldn't be that. However, once I replaced the wheel bearing with no luck, I had my friend steer the wheel a bit when the car was on the ground. I reached behind the wheel and only when the suspension was under load could you feel the tierod clicking. On the lift the tierod was solid when the suspension was hanging.

The good part was that the part was under warrenty. The part that sucks is paying for 1.5hrs of labor and yet another allignment. Car is smooth now.

Sounds like what I've started to hear/feel. It's only when I park and turn the wheel that I feel it click. Seems very reminiscent of the bad TR end on the 190. Is the 1.5 hours of labor because it's too challenging a project, or is it just for convenience sake?

I think it's pretty simple from what I've gathered. My tech has a parts hook up. He purchased the part and installed. I just went back to him to take care of it for convenience.....myself not having a lift and such.

We replaced both tie rods and the center link. The part that was put in several months ago was complete and it was under warrenty. We just swapped the entire assembly for a new one. From what I gathered a while back I couldn't find "just a tie rod" and I could only find the enitre assembley rods+centerlink.

So far so good!

Gone but not forgotten C36
worn ball joint?

noobie here...maybe my problem is a little different than the thread starter...

I was told by a mechanic that my lower ball joints are worn (but I forgot to ask him what the symptoms are)...the car does not appear to have any issues with handling when in motion/driving, however I do have some play (1-2inches on the steering wheel) when car is stopped and wheels are turned (hope I'm making sense)...
