C43 Headlamps

I was devaststed when in a moment of lost concentration in traffic I had a smash in my c43. Anyway I managed to get MB Main Dealer to fix it under my insurance and the fixed the front NS of the car. Before the accident and replacement of the headlamps when I switched them on the beam would rise (from the floor up) until the road was illuminated. Now they are no longer doing this and even though the lamps work I am upset as having paid to have the car done at MB it still did not come back as new.

I took it back several times and they all either have no idea what am talking about or say there was a fault before. I bought this car off my friend who had it from new and he asures me that it has always done this....

Does anyone have a clue what the problem could be or where i can get help?

Thanks for your time

Sounds like the auto leveling is not working. I would have them check the vacuum pump used to raise and lower the beam pattern.

Definitely, there is something wrong. My C43's headlights raises up as you mentioned. Tell them dealer mechanics to go back to school and study up on the C43s.

Thanks for the responses but they ran a check on the Computer at the dealer and the print out (at least the one they showed me) indicates all is well with the auto leveling electronics? Its so annoying!

I'm not sure of the details of how the auto-leveling works, but is it possible that they are level now and don't require adjustment when turned on? I had thought the leveling was to compensate for ride height/rake changes so when you have 400 pounds of passengers in the rear you don't blind oncoming traffic - not necessarily to always have to adjust.

on the back of each head lamp there is a little black box in the middle of the the 2 lights(headlight___box___highbeam). it has a motor inside that hooks 2 the head lamp and moves them up or down! u need them

hey guys,

sorry to throw my hat in the ring here, but is the auto-levelling headlamps an option, or standard? bc my headlamps do not raise up as stated...

just curious.

does your c43 have hid lights?

no HID's. i guess that explains why i dont have the auto-levelling feature?

As far as I understood it it was standard on all the models they imported into the UK. Also I have some good news from the garage today they claim they have finally figured out the fault and narrowed it to two possibilities.
-Either the systems needs a reset or the "sensors" are not working but they confirm that the C43 headlights do come up when the car is started and that they are supposed to :) Happy days! Thanks all for your comments I will let you know how I get on
