C36: Reliable/Inexpensive HP increase?

C36: Reliable/Inexpensive HP increase?
I have a 1997 C36 (5-speed, 276 HP). Does anyone have any ideas on inexpensive (less than a $1,000 or so) and reliable performance enhancements that will increase horsepower? I love my car, but after driving the new C32 with 349HP, I am hoping to get mine over the 300HP mark.
Any suggestions, experiences or references would be appreciated.

I have 97 C36 as well and I have the Powerchip and carbon fibre intake..
If absolutely pull a lot stringer than any stock C36 or even C43
