Talk to Frank Castle and Winks911. Winks is a 2000 car, so has tip, and Frank is not a 2000 car, and doesn't have tip. They both have E55 transmissions fitted to their cars, and working fine. Also talk to MoneyOne, he knows a lot about these, and installed Franks's tranny. They should be able to answer whatever questions you have about just swapping in the tranny.

In theory, yes, that's all you need. If want to see what gear you're in, you can get the instr. cluster from the E55/clk55 and use it, and wire up the gear indicator light, but that might tempt you too much to get the Multifunction steering wheel so you can control the cluster, and then get the whole Command unit to finish it all off.
I think I mis-spoke earlier though. The CLK55 has the same rear end as the E55, a 2.82 I think. Our C43s use a 3.02. You need to find a car, with EGS52, that has a 3.02 from the factory. Or you can upgrade the diff to one from a Clk55 or E55, but that is a headache all in its own right. The other option is getting an EGS52 and then hoping to use STAR to change the diff size in the computer.

A) In general info.:-
Our 43s uses 3.07, with an old version of ME2.0 ECU & TCU/EGS51(which can’t be reprogrammed), i swapped the Engine already, with keeping a stock C43 ECU & TCU, and also keeps an original trans.(which is 722.631), everything fine,,
The late E55(2000-2002), MB changed "3" things:-
1) ECU, from ME2.0 to ME2.8
2) TCU/EGS, EGS51 with update version from "Fab/99 to Mar/2001", but they replaced it to EGS52 from "May/2001 to Nov/2002"
3) Trans. Assembly, from (722.624 to 722.636)
*I don’t hear that the ESP should be changed, its a different thing...,,
B) For Tip-tronic Upgrade:-
If you want to keep your original Trans., and upgraded to a Tip-tronic, with keeping a 3.07 diff., you well definitely need to change "4" things:-
1) Tip-tronic Shifter Assembly
2) Valve body Assembly
3) Parking Release Lever Linkage
4) Shifting Rod, with a Cluster indicator Cabel (for Tip-tronic shifter)
*After changing all above things, its soo important to reflashing the ECU & TCU,, the ME2.0 has a different data file than ME2.8,, for that, if we can
reflash our ME2.0 with an EGS52, that means we can put a Tip-tronic with any diff. ratio we desired.....

Hi zayed i want to put the e55 engine together with e55 tiptronic gearbox as its the best time to do it. If i go down this route i will have to change the TCU, gear shifter and wiring for the gearbox.
If i buy the TCU for clk55 does that mean i have to change ratio?
The shifter from clk does that have to be from clk55 or any clk?

Hi,
Sure, you change the TCU from the early E430 or E55 that has 2.82 diff., but when you put it, you need to do a calibration by a "Star/SDS diagnose",,
in the same time you should also change the diff. ratio to 2.82 from the early E430 or E55,,
*You can get the Shifter Assembly from any of the late of "C or CLK",,
*No any wiring need to be changed in the gearbox, its the same gearbox,,
*Which kind of gearbox you want to put..?, is it from earlier one(722.624) or later one(722.636)..??, do you already got the 55 Engine & gearbox...???,
do you have a 98 or 99 model...????

I want to put the later gearbox with tiptronic. I haven't bought no parts yet as i wanted to know what i need first. Now you have confused me i was told the tcu has to be from clk but has to be EGS52. Basically if i buy any EGS52 TCU and change ratio to 3.07 it should work?

Ah, sorry, no need to be confused my friend,, you don’t have to put EGS52,,
EGS51 from early W210/W208 E/CLK430/E/CLK55 with 2.82 diff. well works fine...,,
I asked many tuning company about putting an EGS52 with reprogramming it to 3.07,, NO ONE ANSWER ME.....,,
Don’t bother your self about this matter.....

Hi,
Sure, the EGS52 is an update one from MB,, but it needs to reflash it with our ME2.0 ECU,, many tuning company said to me its not possible to reflash
the EGS52 with ME2.0 ECU,, also, i went to the local dealer here & they said the same thing,, im not sure if they are correct..!!?,, that’s why at least
in this moment, i want you to stick with EGS51, cause i know it well works perfectly,, without causing any kind of trouble......
*Some of members here got the 2000 C43 with a Tip-tronic shifter, but they still have an EGS51 with 3.07 diff., why they not replaced it to EGS52, or
either try to change a diff. ratio...?!?!, although they got an Tip-tronic shifter with an update ECU.....??!!

No, EGS51 can’t be reflashed,, if you put it, you just need to reset & calibration it with your ECU....,, but if you put EGS52, you well need to
reflash it, with possibility not works.....

No my friend, you can short it that out & make it easy....,,
Just put an E55 or CLK55 Engine,, and keep everything else as it is,, then reset it by STAR dia., the car well works perfectly,
Believe me, if you think about switching the gearbox & EGS52, you well loosing your Time & money with big headache,, im almost 8 months asking &
hesitating about EGS52 with diff. ratio change updating with unfortunate NO results until now......

1) Tip-tronic Shifter Assembly.
2) Parking Release Lever Linkage.
3) Shifting Rod, with a Cluster indicator Cabel (for Tip-tronic shifter)
4) Valve body Assembly,, you can change the valve body without pulling out the gearbox.
*No need to change the TCU, unless you will update it with a STAR, to match with a Tip-tronic code.

1) Tip-tronic Shifter Assembly. #: "202 267 08 24"
2) Parking Release Lever Linkage. #: "140 270 11 65"
3) Shifting Rod. #: "202 260 44 33"
4) Cluster indicator cable. #: "203 267 00 64 "
5) Valve body Assembly. #: "211 270 00 06"
* You can keep your current TCU, but its importantly need to calibration it with an ECU.
* The Valve body located above the oil pan, when you remove the oil pan you will see it immediately,,
