coolant in oil, reservoir going down

hey, I just picked up a pretty clean c43. Surprise, it looks like there's coolant in the oil and the coolant reservoir has gone down. I was wondering before I tear it all apart, has anyone had the oil cooler put coolant in the oil before? I had that happen on an audi and just wanted to check if that might be a possibility that others have experienced. Are there any how to's for doing the heads by any chance? I didn't see any white smoke when I started it up, and couldn't smell anything either, its either very small or maybe its not going into the combustion chamber or needs to warm up a bit, idk.

That’s may the one of important reason, why i separate the water/oil cooler to the additional air cooler.....-

Oil cooler seals are a weak area and many of us have replaced them or had it done.

They usually leak on to your belt and then the belly pad, do you see any sign of leakage?

Also year and milage of your C43 might help.

Welcome.

Its a 98 with 130k miles. I'm not sure I see any external leaks but it is a possibility. I'm less concerned about that than the possibility of coolant getting into the oil. The front of the engine and the oil pan all have some oil on them though. At this point i'm going to replace the oil cooler, put in some oil , run it and check for bubbles in the reservoir and any other external coolant leaks. I like the looks of that SLK55 setup but its out of my budget if there is a possibility of doing head gaskets (and all the wear items associated) anyway. I'll just stick to stock for now. Thanks for the info guys!

I would just start with oil cooler seals.
There is a nice DIY below.

BTW mine were leaking at 75k!

Well, instead of throwing parts at it I put some cheap oil in and ran it up to temp. Steam out the exhaust and milkshake under the oil cap. I'll be starting a new thread about head gaskets now, haha.
