Hi guys, having trouble finding a replacement control unit for my 1995 C36, part number HWA 202 545 93 32 E-GAS.
The electronic throttle actuator went bad and according to mechanic the control unit has gone bad too. After swapping out the ETA, the idle is around 1400 RPM and the ASR light is always on. Any suggestions? He suggests this part based on reading from the diagnostic computer. The harness has been extensively tested and looks fine as well.
Local ECU and VDO repair shops confirm there is a problem, but cannot repair due to lack of information on the module (AMG specific part?). Any cross-shared parts I can use temporarily, such as E320 or C280?

wow, we are having the exact same problem. I thought I wrote that because it is so similar to my issue!
How frustrated are you? haha because I want to push the car off of a cliff.
Sorry you are in the same boat, but I hope we get this thing figured out

Seriously seriously frustrated with this car...I love this car to pieces, but that's all that's going to be left, changed ALL the rubber in the suspension, most of the wiring, tons of connectors, radiator, head gaskets, coils, plugs, thermostat, stupid speaker amp thingy in the trunk, steering box, steering rack and shocks, OVP, fan blades and the mounting plate, intake butterfly thingy, ETA, MILES of vacuum lines, the list just goes on and on.

Here you go bud, eGas module from a 95' C36. I believe your part # or his if off by one digit but please double check!
Good luck, the frustration is worth it in the end and the 95's are the best of the batch!!
If you do not mind my asking how many miles are on your car? Thanks.

Thanks, trying to contact him now. I've got 133000 miles on my c36. Why do you say the 95 is the best?

To answer your question...the 95's were the only W202 produced solely in house at the AMG factory. It has the very robust 500E transmission as does the 96'. The 95's have specialized rotors, expensive but quality. Sure there a few more things. Great car!

Drakon,
are you going to get it? I would love to know if this is going to solve the problem

My C36 is running strong again! Can spin the 255 rears without a problem.
Jasssc, I did get it, and it was part of the problem. It turns out my rebuilt ETA had gone bad again, I had a short in the bundle of wires leading from the ETA to the computers, AND the e-gas computer was blown.
Most likely it was an intermittent short that damaged my ETA in the first place, when I replaced that awhile back it was good enough to drive with, but then it shorted again and blew both ETA and computer. On the other hand, the wire condition was pretty good, (not all crumbly like in other places) so it's kind of frustrating because I don't know exactly what instigated the whole series of problems.
BTW, thanks for the tip RPB. It was kind of pricey for a used unit, but considering how rarely they show up, I thought it was well worth it!

Glad to hear it all worked out, I believe the 95's are toughest to find these type of parts for! Thanks.Originally Posted by drakon
