New Key Fob Doesn't Work...

My key fob messed up in the washer, was working fine before that. I ordered a new one at the MB dealer.
When I received it I went to unlock the doors and the key did not work. Inserted the key in the ignition and that did not work either. Key will not turn and start the car, not even let me unlock the steering.

Is there a procedure to sync this new key?
It's brand new from the dealer. Car is a 1999 C43 AMG.

Your help is really appreciated.

Go back to the dealer with it, they might have given you the wrong one.

Only dealer can sync to car. How did you get the car home with out a working key? They must have the car there to program the key anyway.

There is no programming to be done on the car, that is false information.

There are 2 ways they can order a key, when we order, I ask for an additional key and they come all ready to go. If they ordered what we call a replacements key, then the key needs to catch up to the eis in its rolling code. If this is the case, you simply need to put the key in the eis and let it be in there. Generally it takes under 30 minutes but literature says up to 90.. it depends how many key cycles have been done on the car.. it has to catch the key up on the code.

These 2 different sets of keys is because of how MB structures there das3 system, 8 tracks on a rail, 3 rails, I won't get into it further. Stick the key into the eis and check on it in an hour. If it still doesn't work, they screwed up somehow, bring it back. Very unlikely they screwed up though. It should have your name right on the slip that is on the key package.

The dealer said it does not need to be programmed. 4 years ago I ordered a chrome key from them and the mechanic just aimed at the door handles while pressing the buttons on the key and after that it worked. I don't know which buttons he pressed and he no longer works there.

The car was at my house when the key got washed. Maybe they did sell me the wrong key, can't see how they can make that mistake but I will have it replaced.

Any other ideas how to sync the new key please let me know.

I will try that for sure, thanks.

Benslo, that worked. Thank you for your help. And everyone else too, now we know what we need to do when ordering a new key....

Weird. The two times I've needed a key, I had to leave my car at the dealer for at least a day.

Usually they are coded from the dealer and if not they can do it at the dealer
