New to me C43 in West LA
Hi,
I am getting a new to me C43 next week and will be setting it up as soon as I get it with the usual suspension, brake and maintenance parts. Is there a good shop that knows what they're doing or should I go with EAS in Anaheim who I heard is good. I'm looking at KW V2's SS Brake lines, Stop Tech 105 Pads and fluid, Possible sway bars and necessary control arms, links etc.... Keeping the 17's Suggestions?? I had a W211 E55 and am really looking forward to owning this cult classic C43. Please hook me up with your favorite shops! Thanks, FBS |
Hi and welcome aboard!
Hope all goes well with your C43 when you get her. Give us more details and photos when you have the chance. Any other questions just shoot. :y |
I'm now leaning toward a more budget friendly set up using Vogtland springs and Bilstein Sport shocks.
2 questions. What pad #'s for a level stance and do I need any accessories to allow it to be aligned properly? Thanks, |
Welcome and hope we meet up or bump into each other. Im usually at work by Robertson/National. Well I wouldn't be surprised if i run into you local member! I saw one silver 43 with 18 inch monos few weeks back, wonder if that was you getting on the the 10 West Robertson on ramp lol!
Congrats! |
Matt at Leistung Autohaus. He is the man. He services my W124 E500. Does only MBs.
http://leistungautohaus.com/ Just curious, which C43 did you pick up? I was looking hard at a few and came close on one but seller backed out.

Thanks for the reply.
I live in Culver City so may try to find a place closer, but thank you very much! I bought a Black one from Dallas BMW for 12,500 Delivered to LA. Needs some TLC, but 42K Miles, no accidents and interior is perfect. I have some routine maintenance to take care of with mods to include: Shocks, spring sway bars, brake pads etc.... Normal stuff. Anyone know of a West LA Tuner/Shop geared toward high performance? ...PS, Love 993 TT's! Just sold my 2002 TT. FBS |
i have a warehouse in North Hollywood where i work on my cars... and i have a fleet of over 25+ w202s...
i can help you with springs, shocks and so on. I did the same thing pretty much on my own c43 two weeks ago. |
Using the Vogtland springs, what spring pads did you use? Do you have a picture of any of them? I'd love to see a spring pad combo of 5F/4R if you have it.
Thanks! |
this is my car with vogtland and koni yellow shox
springpads are #1F/#4R rims are ET35 without rubbing issues |
2 Attachment(s)
Same shocks and springs with #5 fronts and #4 rears
|
1 Attachment(s)
the rear 16 inch wheels are visually deceiving but car sits really good
vogtland with yellow billies & 2 bump pad front & rear... |
Thank you all so much for the pictures!
Just what I need to make my decision. You all have nice cars, mine is black. Thanks again, FBS |
Thank you....
For all your thoughtful information. My C43 will be up and running well Monday!
|
If you don't mind me asking, who ended up doing the work on your car?
|
My C43 has been at Pauls Automotive on Van Nuys in Sherman Oaks. I have known him since Jr. High and he and his team do great work. He is honest.
The work I ended up doing is: Rotors, Pads, Brake fluid, Brake lines, trans service, diff oil, repair seat compressor system, Vogtlands, Bilstein Sports, #2 Spring Pads, alignment and balance..... I give full recommendation for Pauls. FBS |
I just picked up a 42k mile black 99 aswell. Congrats.
Please post pics with the new suspension. Also could you elaborate what's needed regarding fixing the seat compressor? |
Turns out it was a passenger side bladder leak. I am going to replace it which involves a $ 130 dollar part put into the seat which an upholster is going to do for $ 200.
Once thats done, both seat will be fully functioning. These repairs are tricky and my shop had done a great job of diagnosing the exact issue. Needless to say, it is a complicated system in that the parts are difficult to get to. If your near the SF Valley, Pauls Automotive has recent practice.... FBS |
Thanks. I'm actually out in OC so plan to stop by Leistung Autohaus next week. After I get my headlight switch/tailight problem sorted I need to find a spare driver's door panel since my armrest has a rip in it on the door.
From there I need to lower it but plan to keep the stock 17's for now and leaning towards Vogtlands/Bilstein Sport with the 5/4 pad setup. Has anyone tried the Jim Conforti chip? I know he makes one for the E430 and it does wonders for the engine. |
