18" Monos
I'm about to mount my w210 e55 18" Monos.
Anyone interested in buying them before I mount the tires and slap them on?
They were chrome, I had the chrome chemically stripped by a plater and then refinished and powdercoated in a sparkly silver. They are perfect, will pick up end of week.
If nobody interested, what is the tire size everybody is using on these? I am looking on tirerack right now and see a nice summer tire, Continental ExtremeContact Sport. Would anyone recommend a different tire model or different tire brand?
size i saw ppl using is front 225/40/18 and rear 255/35/18. is that the consensus?

i love the look of monos but they are so damn heavy, the 18s are something like 30+lbs each, with the rears of course being heavier.
i'd rather just go with more modern reps that were ~24lbs or go with the rpf1 which is like ~18lbs
but i didnt think of weight when i bought them and they are taking up a lot of room in my storage, i definitely dont have room for another set of rims to sit around so its either sell them or use them

I dont like Pirellis. They are rough
Contis are fine but I've seen sidewalls bubble up way too many times.
My favorite tire I had was Azenis Falken but I had the R compound.
Michelin is always a safe bet

I had a Conti sidewall bubble on me... damn you're right LOL. I believe the tire was a bit old though,
I had Michelin on my mustang, never had a problem. They are expensive though. What about Dunlops, I definitely want a smooth ride. I cannot remember what I had on my Mazda, they were a really smooth ride.

Yeah, they come with the XL stamp here. It's just funny that he brought up the sidewall bubble and that actually happened to me twice on Conti although the second time I hit a really big pothole and bent the rim too so kind of expected.
Looking at a nice set of Michelin Pilot Super Sport on tirerack, a bit more expensive but I'm thinking worth it after reading all the reviews. Also I read that the "installers" for tirerack will match tiretrack prices, so really no need to buy online. Just want to find a place with touchless mounting and hunter wheel alignment machine.

I used to run Kumho's when I was much poorer, for the money they were good but definitely not a "great" tire.
I have Falkens right now, don't recall the exact type.
if you were to sell the monos, how much? I've wanted a set of 18's but I'm torn between E55 18's or getting the 2 piece again.

I've seen every kind of tire bulge sidewalls, Continental's don't do it more than any other tire. Michelin makes the best tires, second I'd say contis, Pirelli aren't bad. Granted each has many models that range but I'm speaking overall. Pilot supersport is the best bang for buck tire you can buy for a performance oriented tire. Putting cheap tires on a nice Mercedes is the dumbest thing you can do. See it all the time, what a waste of a car to have crap tires on it.
