Air Filter Inlet Restriction
For those of us that like/want better performance. This is something you have to look into. Remove your air box, than look through the air inlet and see if the side of your air filter has a black rubber blocking the air inlet. See attached picture.
What I did was mark the rubber where it's blocking air. Than remove the air filters and cut that section of the rubber out. After cutting it off you should just see the filter with no more rubber. This should be enough as that area now can suck in air coming in.
Keep in mind that any thing little or big that blocks or restricts air will help the engine breathe better.

I'll need to check that out on the enlarged air box, not unless you have already cut that part out when you modified the box. George, can you confirm this?
Checking will be a bit later as "T-Rex" is currently at the paint shop for some rust repairs in the usual places and a full respray

That blockage is not the same with stock filters which were designed by mercedes. It has slats doesn't it? Those allow the air to go through. Looks like you have K&N filters which have solid rubber sides.
I guess it depends which way they are positioned in the box, I would have to look at it again.
