Would You Buy a Dealer Demo C63s (2,000 on ODO)?

Hello everyone,

I have a C43 AMG on order set to arrive in the next month. Today, I got the itch to test drive a C63s. I have been already having some mixed feelings about going with the 43 over the 63/63s. (cost was one major prohibitive issues)

The dealership has a C63s Specced almost identical to my C43 (same color/trim) that was a dealer demo (sales managers car). The odometer is right over 2,000 miles (of which I put at least 30+ on it today lol). The car runs beautifully. Smooth shifting, direct braking, and is incredibly solid on surface and high way streets. No rattles, wind noise, nothing. (even has acoustic glass installed according to the sales sheet).

The MSRP of the vehicle is $83,500. They are asking for $75,500. I would be purchasing the vehicle not leasing. My dealer claims this vehicle cannot be discounted further. Even with fleet incentives etc. So here are the tough questions.

1. Would you trust a dealer demo with how I described it? Especially knowing I will not be the one who breaks in the vehicle for the first 1,000 miles.

2. Is that a good deal or should I be asking for more off. Or, discounts on extended warranty. Free pre paid service?

3. Can the vehicle be hooked up the the service computer to see abuse during the initial break in?

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I really now have a serious itch for the C63s. Thank you in advance!

What year is the car? Id ask for more off. I was got $6500 off on a new 16' and they offered me $10K off on a new 15'. This was in November of 15'. Id ask for more off a "used car"

agreed. You should spring for the 63, but you can custom order a new one for not too much more than what they're offering. It's a used car, have them price it like it is.

That is not even close to a good deal. I can get 10% off a brand new 2017 C63s. So you should be getting close to 15% to be a fair deal.

look for a left over new 16 63s that's what I got in DEC 2016 .
with 50 miles only. Total value was in the mid 80's with options.
got it for same amount their are offering you for the used one.
if you can get it lower then that then go for it.
The best part is I got to break it in my self.
just remember the minute you take it home it drops a lot in value.

Have you ever rented a car before? I know how I drive rentals and I usually have a 4 cylinder nothing. It's basically driven like a performance loaner. I would be terrified of buying a demo with 2000 miles. Every person who has driven it has most likely driven it hard. I would say if you plan to have it for a short time, you'll be ok. If it's s somewhat long term I'd say no. But that's me.

Is that brand new as in ordered? Or a vehicle from the lot? I am looking on true car and see these vehicles are rarely discounted beyond 5% off MSRP?

Even if the demo was theoretically only driven by an old Mercedes Sales Manager for the first those 2,000 miles? I do not believe this car was ever "loaned" out as a loaner in the purest sense?

Its the same, however remember they're a dealership so they will give you their marketing speech of "ordered vehicles will not get much incentives... yadi yadi yada.." Don't believe them.

Is there any way to plug the car into a computer and see how the car was driven during the first 1,000 miles? (might be a silly questions, but worth asking?)

I would have driven it like I stole it if I was that sales manager. A lot of people think manager driven means it's better than your average joe driving it. I don't think that's necessarily the case.

My opinion is, avoid the dealer demo. If you really want to get in to a C63 or C63S, work with your dealer to make it happen on a new one.

That being said, It's always risky driving cars that have a higher performance quotient than one you've recently ordered. If you can appreciate a fine built machine without resenting the one you've got lined up, then you're fine. A lot of people can't. I've made that mistake a few times in life. You will get the chance to drive something that will 'break' other cars for you. On that note, stay out of Porche dealerships...

Ask if they will make it a CPO, which will give you same as new car warranty 5 yrs from first sale date and unlimited miles . Then ask if they will throw in 2 more years of CPO which is worth at least $3,500 AND is transferable to anyone you sell the car to. If you intend to keep the car and get it serviced by the selling dealer the worst that could happen is you get to ride in a lot of different loaners. If they won't CPO it, walk away......

Seems quite large, at least in my area (Southern California). Coupes are going at or above MSRP down here.

I mean, these vehicles are meant to be driven hard, so I would get the car and then keep it only for a couple years. Long term mechanical issues are the next owner's problem.

Can anyone else second this opinion? Seems plenty of people buy used C63's with a lot more miles and a lot more unanswered questions than a 2k miles manger demo.

This will be my weekend car and probably only average 6k miles a year. I have a paid off 4Runner as my daily driver beater car. (Outside salesmen)

That being said, I want to keep this car for at least 5-6 years. I may track it, but have never been on a track before.

Honestly, does everyone here just beat the hell out of the cars for 2 years then write them off?

That's what I was thinking. I have an MSRP deal +$500 off from LA Auto Show on my custom ordered C63. Best I could do for a C63S coupe with a sticker of $82,145.

I could do better if I took one on the lot that stickers at $87k+ but could still not bring it down to the MSRP on the one I ordered.

Wouldn't the in service date for a demo not have started yet?

Was this an exec demo?

That's a big decider when getting a demo. Was it raped by customers on test drives or was it used by one of the senior executives at Mercedes or the dealer?
