C450 AMG

Zibby, I don't know what you've been reading but the c450 has practically all of the c63 parts, except the engine of course. It has very little in common with the c400. Compared to the c400, the transmission is different, the steering is different, the suspension is different, the styling is different.
The c450 has all of the c63 except the engine. The c450 has none of the c400 except the engine. It's a c63 with a c400 engine.
On another point, why didn't they call it the c45? I thought AMG cars were denoted by two numbers.

You realize that brakes are massively important components? The C63 has different calipers, rotors, and pads. It can also be had with carbon ceramic brakes, which are also entirely different from the C450's.
The C450 has tuned-up versions of the C400's parts.
The C63 has its own unique suspension, exhaust, brakes, steering, etc.
You admitted once that you know almost nothing about cars. As someone that takes apart cars for fun and runs them on the track, I can assure you that I'm not steering you wrong.
But, troll on.

WTF? The c450 has upgraded brakes akin to the c63. The c450 has identical suspension to the c63. All of the reviews for the c450 describe it as 80% of a c63. The missing 20% being the engine.

What other review?
Car and driver said:
"So the eminently satisfying C450 AMG packs enough performance to be a full-blooded AMG model just a decade ago, and today it offers something like 75 to 80 percent of an Affalterbach special. Which is to say that it’s damn good."
That to me means it drive 80% like an amg but doesn't clearly say it's got 80% identical parts

I went to bed early and missed a couple of good topics.
When I bought my c350 I was under the impression that this model was designed to compete with the BMW and Audi counterparts 335 and s4.
Why not just power it up a bit more to really compete with them instead of coming out with a c450 "AMG".
I understand the logic of making money by use of the AMG logo but not in this manner. It's a partial AMG and I personally don't like it.
This probably all has to do with the name as well as the rear deck lid AMG - c63 change.

The C450 does not have the same brakes as the C63. They are a couple mm larger than a C400 but much smaller than the C63.

I have no problems with MB releasing a C450, I do have problems with them throwing "AMG" at the end of it calling it a C450 "AMG Sport". That is what makes it a poser mobile. I have no issues with non-AMG MB's, my wife drives a non-AMG GL550 and before that I bought her two non-AMG ML's. That being said I would NEVER buy her a GL550 AMG Sport if MB ever built one. Why? becuase it would be a poser move.

While in Palm Springs; I spent some time with the C450. It was a full hour session with the car. I also met the head engineer for the C450/AMG Sport line. I did not drive the car. However, here are some points on the vehicle:
1) It has been tweaked my AMG. What does that mean? The exhaust, suspensions, trans, and steering are AMG components. It not some "styling" package where AMG put their logo on the car. There will be no Airmatic on the C450. It is being designed as a entry level AMG. I was told it is not the same suspension as the C63. Press articles state it is the same.
2) It is a direct position against the Audi S4. MB realizes there is a huge market for these kinds of vehicles. Hence, the new AMG Sport line. The Audi dominates 50% of that market.
3) It will have a very similar price to the C400. It's being positioned to sell; not sit in inventory. The C400 does sell very well as it is.

Bro, If I want something for everyday use I will drive my GL or my Denalli or F-350. We are talking about performance vehicles here, AMG's have always been about performance first and everything else second. I am sure they typical AMG buyer cares more about power than they do a smooth and quiet ride. You just proved why the C450 should not have the AMG name anywhere near it.

At the end of the day it's not an AMG. There is no AMG emblem on the back. It should have been called the C450 and that's it. If you put the AMG logo on the back. You're a poser.

Again, I would have more of an issue if it was a C45. It isn't and clearly a Sport model. Whether it is an Mercedes-Benz AMG Sport or Mercedes-AMG, to me I am comfortable that there is enough varaiation in the name...starting with the fact that an AMG will continue to have 2 numbers, not 3.
To me it is really that simple. Isn't it?

It doesn't have an AMG Logo in the back. The back has: C450 on one side, and 4Matic on the other side.

I do not have any additional information on the car. I did not drive or hear the vehicle. I just saw and sat in the vehicle.
No worries. This thread needed that clarification! LOL

Jrcart, I am that person in the market for a quiet comfortable car but also one that I can have some fun in when the mood takes me. This may sound perverse to you c63 guys but I'm kind of hoping the c450 will be that compromise car between luxury and performance. Disappointed it won't have airmatic. Is this confirmed?
Without wishing to flog a dead horse even further, and I've been told off by a moderator, I'll say one final thing on the AMG or not debate. I've read the official press release for the c450 and that leaves you in no doubt where MB are pitching this car. It explicitly states that the c450 is part of the "AMG family". I'm not saying whether that's a good thing or bad thing, but it is definately an AMG as far as MB are concerned.

St3v, in MB press release for the c450 they state unequivocally that it is an AMG car. It seems the AMG line of cars is being expanded for broader appeal. If you guys think that's brand dilution that's your perrogative. But it is definately being marketed and sold as a "entry level AMG car" and that's a direct quote from MB.

Who cares about marketing. They want to sell a car for crying out loud. The actual C450, a three digit model, does not say AMG on the back, for those of you that care about your precious badge. Like M Sport BMWs, there is no M on the back (except M235i, which is different than a typical M Sport package option).
Troll? Are you talking about me? Don't have a full opinion yet, I still need to test drive the C450 and C63S to make my decision. Like I said, I am open to a C63S but I don't see any problem with C450 as an AMG Sport either.

Thanks to jpbenz for giving us real info.. And that the components from the c450 are either uniquely designed for that car or definitely not found on the c63/s. I don't think digital trends was aware of that.

Good info
This leads me to believe that tuning this car will be limited to the trans ... As the mct has historically accommodated quite a bit of extra power at least on the e63

Range Rover Sport Supercharged - Porsche Caymen S - Motorcycles
Quote from the BBC review of the C63
"Parked near the Autódromo paddock is a convoy of C450 AMG 4Matic sedans. First in a coming line of AMG Sport models, this 362hp C-Class serves as a more affordable entryway to the company’s AMG speed division. Faster than standard Benzes but not quite full-fledged AMG cars, they are analogues to Audi’s mid-priced S or BMW’s M Performance models."
