Time for sourcing out Brake Pads and Rotors

I am near to hitting 20k km on the C43 and I am slowly starting to feel it is time for changing/ upgrading the brakes.

This has been discussed previously for the C450. Can someone please share what option they went with? I definitely do not like what MB OEM is offering on the table. The performance is amazing, but it clearly isn't lasting long and it dusts absolutely crazy.

There is a thread that was opened by @NYSCoiL about this:
https://mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w...ke-pads-2.html

Hoping he can shed some light on what options he went with in the end. Considering I do not track my car, I would not mind a setup with higher durability and lower dust.

I had to replace my brakes and rotors at 13 fkn thousand miles smh.. I went with OEM because there really isn't a lot of options and didn't wanna Ginny pig around.. if it happens again by next year, I'll go with what I see is popular and proven to be and upgrade

Did you get the OEM parts from a dealership or did you manage to source out a cheaper option?

I'm just about to hit 25K KM and a check pad warning light just came on. Visually checked the fronts and it does seem to be due for a replacement.

How many KM/miles are you all getting? 25K seems pretty low. I'd have to change brake pads every year!

I'm at 17k miles and I have heard the brakes squealing, not sure if related to brake pad wear or otherwise.

OEM pads online aren't too bad when it comes to price...

Front set, 000-420-49-00: $81.75

Rear set, 000-420-59-00: $60.00

Wear Indicator, 169-540-16-17: $6.94 each

If the rotors are still good, cheap brake pad replace job if you do it yourself.

I ordered from an MB part dealer online which was like 20-30% cheaper than at dealer and had local shop install.

My MB dealer SA was quoting me about 800 for parts & labor for just the front.. FOH

Same thing with my C400. If you notice that they are wearing MB will replace within the first year as a warranty issue. They did with my C400. Horrible on tires too

Edit: just remembered that I went in with a slight vibration/warped rotors and thus they covered everything.

I thought warped rotors was a myth?

I thought the Mercedes Rotors are as much of an wearable item as the brake pads themselves. Can the Rotors be used for two cycles of just replacing the brake pads?

I have for sure heard that these rotors are really soft and do need replacing with the pads. Also there are also the famous ridges that these brake pads tend to create around the outer edge which squeaks like crazy once pads are replaced.

Unless you get the rotors machined which is expensive as well, haha. Man these brakes sucks when it comes to lasting.

I'm willing to bet the rear rotors will still be good for a 2nd set of pads, especially since only about 30% of braking is performed by the rears. Now as for those front rotors, they would have to be measured to see if they're too thin to be machined...if they can't be turned, well then you'd need a set of front rotors as well.

Front Brake Rotors, 000-421-23-12 - $125.25 each

Rear Brake Rotors, 000-423-07-12 - $57.75 each

Are you saying the AMG drilled front rotors are only $125 each?

Cuz assuming that can be had up here in Canada that's very reasonable.

Part of the problem for the OP (and me) is that we're up in Canada so it's a lot harder to find parts online.

Are you guys tracking your cars to be destroying the pads that quickly. I've been downshifting a lot to reduce load on brakes (drove a manual vehicle before the Merc so used to rev matched downshifts)

That's... actually super reasonable. Last car I had with a factory "big brake kit" was $2-3k for a brake job.

MASSC450, that is actually an amazing prize. And you are sure about the quality? I mean were you positive that they were genuine?

Do you please mind linking where you bought it from? Thanks once again for the help. It is kind sucks that there is so little aftermarket support for such a great car.

I rev match/ downshift as well to engine brake the car. But the engine in lower gears is quite torqy, so you kind of need to use the brake quite a bit to bring it to a standstill. Also I go ham on sports+ car when I go downtown to enjoy the exhaust. I try to be within the speed limits, so I accelerate and brake constantly quite a bit, which probably isn't that easy on the brakes. Only way to have some fun with the car without tracking it, haha.

Just to be clear, I have not had to buy brake parts yet, my year old 2016 C450 only has 7,000 miles on it currently. I put 10,000 miles on my past 2015 C300 Sport 4Matic, and those brakes were still good as well when I traded it in last year for the C450.

Those prices for brake part I listed are genuine OEM Mercedes Benz parts right from mbonlineparts.com...shipping not included. Prices are only slightly higher on other MB part suppliers online, as well as ebay.

https://www.mbonlineparts.com/

Here are the pics from ebay...

I've had my brakes squeal very lightly only on downslopes and I'm not sure it is brake pad wear because the pads still have plenty of meat on them.

Guys, just a note, if any of you do find after market support for ours, please do let us know here. Like now looks like there is no option other than go for OEM. But it would be great to have after market support on this.

I will probably start calling a few companies to see if I can get any to get a move on. NYCSOil you talked with Aekebono for the C450 didn't you?
