C43 in canadian winter?
Hey guys
im looking to buy a C43 Coupe, and plan on using it as a daily driver all year around. But i live in Canada, where we can get -40 celsius temperature and lots of snow accumulation.
So i was wondering, to anyone who has knowledge on this matter, is the C43 Coupe drivable in winter under those conditions? (obviously good winter tires will be a must)
Thanks in advance!

I'm surprised you didn't tell him to ask his dealer

Thanks for the answer!
Always good to have real experience opinion, instead of just relying solely on biased dealers.
Been reading about those transmission weird issues though...

I used my 2017 C43 coupe all of last winter in Alberta, no issues what so ever as long as you put on a decent set of winter tires. But yes if you hammer on it hard, you will fish tail a little. But as long as you use your head even a little I would say it's a perfectly fine winter driver.

I had 2 previous C350 4Matics (variable front-rear power transfer), and I really didn't feel a huge difference with my C450 last winter which has front/rear power ratio biased towards RWD. Just go easy on the gas - as has been said, she will wag her tail if you're too aggressive with the go pedal...although in a safe setting, it can be fun.

I just got the 2018 model....live in Ottawa. Was contemplating on winter tires and rims but was also wondering if I can wing it this winter. Looked around in Costco for run flats and they came up to $2000. Any suggestions on good deals greatly appreciated.

Yes, don't get runflats. And if you're on the 19" runflats probably not a great idea to run those in the winter. You can get a dedicated set of 18" winter tires + rims for $1500ish.

If you have the factory all seasons then you may be able to eek by this winter if you're doing limited driving. If you have the 19' summer performance tires, they're incredibly bad in winter, I would change them if possible.

Check out PMC tire, ( based in Quebec) got my winters and rims from them last year. Very knowledgeable on offsets and minimum requirements, bought 18’s with a square set up for winter and I think they ship for free to most of Canada, balanced and ready to be installed. Avoid run flats at all costs, by the way why are you even thinking about winter, run the sh#t out of those run flats while the weather is good !!!

We're talking about driving on the streets here, so for the most part, AWD is AWD, guys. What it REALLY comes down to is tires and ground clearance. We've got some decent clearance but we can't be getting too crazy. And I wouldn't recommend lowering springs. I've dealt with replacing wheel well liners and belly-pans galore. Cracked bumpers and all that other BS that comes with having that "perfect stance". But I guess I'm too old for that sh*t, now.
Also, this new version of this 4MATIC is just as capable as my previous Audi's & Subaru's AWD systems were. And yes the back end will swing out on ya more than most AWD cars will but that's only when you turn off 'Traction Control.' Which is what I do everyday; especially in winter. Because if you ask me, the only way to steer on snow is with oversteer

Finally got four winter tires and rims from PMC tire(www.pmctire.com) for 1/4 the price of dealership OEM ones. I first tried Costco tires(Michelin X ice 18 inch X13) with 18 inch replica alloy wheels which didn't clear the front calipers. The return was easy but they didn't have any other brand to try out and were suggesting I go with 19 inch winter tires and rims (more expensive and not recommended).
The next day, I decided to go with PMC tires online. They shipped them mounted and balanced in two days and delivered to the door nicely packed with lug nuts. Installed them myself in the garage in 20 minutes without any glitch. Now I am fearlessly driving on the winter roads of Ottawa.
Replika Wheels R167 Hyper Silver wheel 18X8, 5x112, 66.5, 32 offset
Hercules Tires - AVALANCHE RT - P225/45R18 XL 95H BSW
Total:CAD $1617

I have the same tires, not sure how great they are on snow or icy roads.GTA doesn't have major snowfall at this time yet, but damn those tires are very noisy.
I used to have Bridgestone WS60 and WS80, Micheline Xi3, Toyo Observe 02 on my others cars in the past, this set are yet bring the most road noise. I hope they are really good on snow!

Definitely prefer them over Costco steels.

Purchased winter rims and tires for my 2019 C43 at Camco Acura in Ottawa. They gave a great deal for RWC Wheels and Toyo Tires - $2800 tax-in including MB sensors:
