This needs to be answered now

Hello fellow members, I am sure that many of you are extremely annoyed at how many different answers there are about the C43 without the performance exhaust having pops or not, and I want this thread to be the final answer. Anyone who has driven or drives a standard c43, now that it's been about a year since the car has been on sale, did the standard exhaust develop pops, and if you put an aftermarket exhaust, did you get any pops and crazy noises? Thank you all, and I apologize if my post comes off as grouchy, I'm sure many of you are just as confused as I am

2017 C43 Coupe
I have the 2017 C43 coupe with standard exhaust. In sport+ mode you get pops and crackles both when accelerating hard (hard upshifts) as well as deceleration (downshift breaking). You can accentuate this if you shift up and down manually but also occurs in automatic.

This also happened on the car that I test drove before mine was delivered which also had standard exhaust. My wife's comment was, "Why does this car sound like a video game?"

I think it's probably accentuated on the one with performance exhaust and valves open, but I think it's the programming more than the actual pipes.

Are you thinking of buying a C43 without the AMG package, or you already have one?

I think it's worth it to get the package, I previously had a C400, slightly smaller engine, didn't sound anywhere close.

I'm thinking of getting a used one around december-february as prices are starting to get extremely attractive. I would definitely look for one with the performance exhaust but they're nearly impossible to find, but I just wanted to know if the stock has any pops at all. I would probably put an awe track edition exhaust on it if I cannot find a pe

I think you'll have more luck in the months ahead. When I bought my C43 and went through the vehicles that the Toronto dealers had (large network of 7 dealers), most cars had the AMG package. You shouldn't have a problem finding one the longer you wait into 2018.

I Have 2017 and YES it crackles and pops when downshifting from 3500 to 2500 rpms in S+. For me its plenty loud enough.Just crack the gears higher and boom its PE exhaust. Was following another c43 with PE exhaust sounds the same just louder sorta like the fart can hondas... ya follow.

The pops and crackles are result of the ECU on the c450 and c43. The c400 was not programmed in this same way and is not capable of making these noises. The car is designed to produce controlled backfires on overrun, and braps on hard upshifts while in S+. It should be noted that both the ECU and transmission learn from your driving style, and you crackles will vary from car to car. Some have noticed the sounds disappeared after making performance mods to the car. Others, including myself, have had the sounds disappear entirely, requiring a trip to the dealer for a re flash. These noises are NOT the result of the exhaust.
The standard SPORT exhaust is a 2 to 1 to 2 setup with a mid mounted resonator and 2 mufflers out back.
The optional PERFORMANCE exhaust is a true dual exhaust almost identical in design to the C63 performance exhaust. I ditches the resonator for a crossover pipe (H pipe) with a flap, and a pair of mufflers out back, each with a bypass valve. With the valves opened, the exhaust is similar to a straight pipe setup (like my AWE Track exhaust) where volume is increased, and low end drone happens because of the limited back pressure.
There it is.
All of it.
And all available from MBUSA.com

Thats gonna require a crystal ball buddy. CarGurus is a pretty solid resource for new and used car markets with participating dealers. Trucar is similar but a little less transparent. But February... Cunmnmmmmmon maaaan.

I don't think the C43 PE is valved in the H pipe. I think we only have valves in the mufflers. Correct me if I am wrong.

Got my car in January. I have the standard exhaust with deleted mufflers. Before the delete on June 1st, I only heard the pops in sport+ but now that I deleted the mufflers, the pops are A LOT more noticeable and doesn't sound raspy at all.

I got my car in June without PE. I ended up regretting after few days.
The car was new and drove good but you knew something was missing and it was the PE to make it more special and engaging. I craved for the pop and crackles.
Then someone was driving with a PE while I was at a gas station and it made me so jealous. I ended up getting the AWE Touring.
I’ve had the AWE Touring for awhile now it does sound better. The upshifts and downshifts sounds good but I don’t get crackles in Sport or Sport + either auto or manual all the time.
I get them but not always almost to the point of them being very rare. When I do get them I cry of joy lol

Checking out the dealer menu in command my exhaust is configured standard so maybe cars with PE will say sport or performance…
hopefully tuning company can release a tune that mimics PE or I can get someone from service to change the parameter on my exhaust hehe…

You're correct, munis. No valve in the midsection.

Like someone said further up, makes it sound like a video game car. Which isn't always a good thing.

I intend to delete the mufflers in my C43 too. However, I heard my friend who had deleted mufflers in his Audi S3 and the exhaust note become "not soild" although it loud. Do you agree? Also, how is the drone inside the car? Noticebale?

Really need your advice. Thanks.

And if anyone can answer the drone relative to like hot hatches and subies I would appreciate it because the thing unique about the c43 is it brings the luxury lovers and the subiebros and ST/RS guys like me together
