Thanks for posting all of the detail and great pictures.

What fuse position did you tap off of for switched 12v?

Did you run the switched 12v just to the Fix82 or did you run it to another distribution block so that it can also be used for the sub amp and DSP?

Thanks!!

I am about to try this. Any chance we can get a parts list for the wires, blocks, fuses etc?

mbfan219, I used the next available fuze slot in the block. I have a pic of it above--probably not super clear where it's at, but it should be the next open one. As for the remote cable, I recall using the remote out from the Fix82 to control the sub amp only. The OPTICAL cable from the Fix82 to the DSP allows it to turn on the DSP so there was no need to run a separate remote lead to it.

benzdude, my sincere apologies. I do not have a build list. Only what was put in this thread. A better person than I would have done that :-( The good news is that everything is still working just fine though!

Great feedback! Thanks! Good news that once you get switched 12v to the fix82 that it can then feed switched 12v to the other devices.

No worries, from the pictures I can tell you used :
  • 1 InstallGear 1/0 Gauge Complete Amp Kit
  • 1 InstallGear distribution block (part of the kit?)
  • 1 InstallGear 150 AMP ANL fuse (part of the kit?)
  • White wires coming from the Fix 82 (can't tell the brand or gauge)
  • 1 ATO ATC fuse tap
  • Lisle 35260 Plastic Fastener Remover
  • ?

Gunnysack,

Where did you end up mounting your subwoofer amp?

Thanks again for the detail and numerous pictures. They’ve been extremely helpful.

From the other thread in the w205 group. Will make your life infinitly easier and easy to go back to stock!!

This way if you want to go back to stock you just remove the T-harness and plug everything back in.

Part number is CT10MC03 and looks like it fits the same connector for a Burmester amp as well as Harman Kardon.

I also found the Helix V Eight DSP can output 75 watts per channel so may reduce the need to bi-amp the footwell subs.

AS an update to this, I purchased on ebay for roughly $48 USD. shipping from the UK. Will report if it works or not! Still deciding what I want to do about my stereo components. WIll be running audison Voce 3 way up front, but dont know what I want to do about amps or subwoofer yet. I have equipement already but having second thoughts. I have an audison prima ap 8.9bit if anyone may be interested.

This will be great if the harness works. I hate making permanent changes that are hard to revert come trade in.

Helix V Eight DSP is around $1000

I just bought the harness from the UK via Ebay and the last Helix v Eight from Crutchfield today for $800. Now onto the challenge to fit both the Helix and my JL Audio subwoofer amp into the cramped space. I’ll take some pictures once I start to install everything.

Any thoughts on using the new JL Audio VX600/6i?
  • 6-channel car amplifier with digital signal processing
  • 75 watts RMS x 6
  • TüN™ software (Android, iPhone, PC. Bluetooth available)
  • AK7738, processing at 24 bit/96 kHz.
I have a soft spot AK DSPs.

So is the Helix a better amp than the Audison? That would be great if it is, making more options available for our cars. Also did you need to use the Jl Audio DSP as Mike did or will the Helix handle that part also- Wondering if the JL DSP is even necessary, especially for me, as I have the non performance exhaust and exhaust sound does not go through my speakers.

Buying the above mentioned JL Audio Dual 8" sub box with built in amp will eliminate the need for mounting a second amp in the factory space- that would be my plan or is my plan.

Looking forward to your results.

The Helix is 75 watts x 8 @ 4ohms
The Audison is 35 watts x 8 @ 4ohms

You will need the JL Audio Fix 82 to combat the Mercedes VNC (vehicle noise compensation) technology. Not sure which MB models have it.

(Note. VNC is not automatic volume control)

So are you running all of the speakers including the door speakers at 75 watts? or just the two front mid subs at the full 75w?

Thanks

8 channels would not be enough for all speakers and there are other issues. (Surround feature might be affected?)

Also, after looking at the burmester wiring diagram there are more wires on the connector than just speakers.

You can't just unplug it and plug in a spare. You would also have to transfer the other important wires over.

I bought some 16 pin male/female wiring harnesses from ebay. I will wire the 16 speaker wires to each connector. That way if you want to go back to stock just unplug from the Fix 82 and plug back into the burmester amp. (Hopefully it works)

I ordered my Audison Prima AP8.9 yesterday from ebay $700 with shipping. Coming from Austria. (fingers crossed)

i dont understand what you are doing with the interconnect. If you ordered that harness i posted above, it would do same thing for you. If you didnt order it, I can see why you may want to order those harness.

also should have contacted me about the ap8.9, i am probably selling mine to run more power. But let me know how the ebay purchase goes, I have heard they sell non genuine audison on there but the price has always been tempting. Let me know

You have one for sale? Now you tell me.

My harness idea was only to provide easy switching back to the factory amp when i eventually sell the car. Only on the 6 sets (16 total) of speaker wires would be on the harness.

Like this:

My AP8.9 was purchased from an authorized Audison dealer on Ebay. He has 25 sold and a 100% positive feedback rating.

if the Audison is not powerful enough, I will try the six channel JL Audio VX600/6i next. I emailed JL Audio and a tech replied very quickly. I like these guys.

AH, I now understand your idea. So you will cut into the T harness and not your actual Burmester AMP connector wires.

Yes it would if you are running the same configuration the same way the guy did in the article. You only use the new amp for 6 channels; all four door speakers and the two mid bass subs. In the article it says that the stock amp is good enough run the extra mids in the front dash and rear deck. They are good just for fill after they have been equalized.

I am leaning toward ordering the JL amp, JL rocks and that extra power eliminates by amping the two front subs.

You're on the right track with the purpose of the T harness. It's so that you can cut the wires on the T harness instead of on the factory wiring. Even with my Helix amp that has 8 channels at 75w, it will still leave one input not accounted for. My plan is to leave the center channel on the Burmester amp only. So on the T harness I won't cut that wire, and it will simply pass through on the harness.
I'm looking forward to receiving the harness. I ordered it over a week ago, and it looks like it finally cleared USPS customs coming from the UK and should be here tomorrow.
When I started pulling panels in the trunk today I learned the C63 battery is in the trunk, not like the C43. This is good on one hand because it will be easier to run the power wire to the amps/DSP, but will be a little tricker to find space to mount everything.

my harness just came in today. will let you know if it fits!!

also thats cool your battery is in the back. Makes things much easier for wiring. I prefer the weight of that in the back, but i enjoy all the space i have in trunk for fix a flat kit and amps now.

goodluck. Can you send a picture of where the battery factory ground is? I may ground all my amps to same point.
