C450 stolen
 

Kinda funny friend of mine had his c450 stolen out of his driveway in broad daylight and all on security cam.
Dude drives up and goes to the front door holding a small box like an old camcorder which turned out to be a key scanner of some kind searching for the key fob in the house it took all of a minute or so once at the door.

He then walks up to car pulls handle the first pull nothing.. second ..hes in and np starting and driving off.

Anyway to further the story he had previous situation with daughter borrowing his car and locking the keys in it and he called MB canada to see if they can help..well help they did by locating car and remotely unlocking car so he thought considering this theft they could possibly help by disabling the car in some way to maybe get his beaute back but they refused to do anything. I am thinking liability issues this is Canada lol and god forbid if said car thief is in mid pass of an 18 wheeler on the highway...anyway cars gone and he's up ****s creek.

But... lol he has full replacement insurance and he's getting a 2019 c43 as a replacement no charge...soo jelly..lucky *****

Double click the lock button and that won't be a problem for him again.

I believe MercedesMe isn't available in Canada...

Pressing the lock button twice disables the keyless go access for unlocking via door handles. It has nothing to do with the actual key itself nor does it put the key to sleep, so you dont need to do it on both keys. Give it a try, two firm presses of the lock button then try tugging on the door handle, wont unlock. I learned this a while back, I have a habit of hitting the lock button a few times (old old old car wouldn't chirp the horn for lock until second press), then when I returned to the car I thought the key was dead or I was having an issue with keyless go, turns out double press on lock disables the feature.

Sorry, the manual disagrees with you:

"If you do not intend to use a key for an extended
period of time, you can deactivate the KEYLESSGO
function of the SmartKey. The SmartKey will
then use very little power, thereby conserving
battery power. For the purposes of activation/
deactivation, the vehicle must not be nearby.
To deactivate: press the&button on the
SmartKey twice in rapid succession.
The battery check lamp of the SmartKey
flashes twice briefly and lights up once, then
KEYLESS-GO is deactivated (Y page 84).
To activate: press any button on the SmartKey"

^ I think he is right. If it wasn't this case, the car would need to be locked with the double-press EVERY TIME to avoid thievery (very inconvenient).

Give this a try, take both keys with you. Leave one active and disable the other. Now tug on the door handle.... Surprise!

Good to know, can never find the wifey's keys but i'll keep this in mind for sure and keep my set of keys on sleep mode. Thanks for the correction,

Only the Keyless-Go. Regular Smart Key doesn't transmit until you push the button.

Only Keyless-Go sends out regular signals that can be relayed to the car.

Hit the lock button twice in quick succession to disable sending out those signals.

I was at a dealership in Taunton UK yesterday and the tech told me that double locking does a few things including:

• Deadlocks the doors
• Disables the auto unlock/push start system
• Stops the key transmitting (saving battery power)
• Allows the owner to sleep peacefully at night

I didn't think about the second key but I'll do this also tonight on both keys and then I can carry on with just one daily use key.

You need to click the lock button twice quickly as if you allow a more than what feels like half a second to go by between clicks you end up just deadlocking. I also give a door handle a pull before walking away.

If i'm in any doubt about the area i'm parking in I also pull the start button out and take it with me.

I lock my car in the garage at night..
