Anyone thinks the big radiator cooling fan comes on too late?

So I noticed, that the big cooling fan behind the radiator does not really start until you hit like 110C atleast. It starts around 105C, but moves very slowly. When you reach 110C it properly kicks in and cools the engine down. If it kicked in full on a bit earlier, it would have been much better. Because the Engine cuts the extra fueling required by the PE to create burbles and crackles in Sports plus after 106 to 107C. So if it gets any warmer, you will only get upshift bangs and pops, but no crackles or burbles on liftoff if the temp goes above 107. If this is shut off by the engine sound module separately, I do not know. It goes back to normal when the temp falls or the car gets high air flow again.

Very confusing. What I am trying to say is, is there a way to make sure the radiator fan blasts a bit earlier?

PS: I am talking about Oil temps here. I can read the water temp using JB4, and it always stays a bit lower than oil temps.

Yea, I noticed it a few days ago when i went canyoning and was driving pretty hard. I'm surprised it didn't come on earlier than i expected, but it does cool down pretty quickly. If you do want it to come on earlier, you'd have to change the thermostat to stay maybe 82C thermostat. but i dont believe any aftermarket companies have any cooling upgrades for this car. With my previous car, Fan speed could be changed with a tune...

Which thermostat do we have on the car now? is there any way to check? We do not need any cooling updates if the fan kicked in a bit sooner. The engine would have been purring along then.

This is a good point and a big issue for me. As it is regularly 100+ F in Houston during the summer. I'm good friends with the lead tech at my MB dealer. I'll ask him if there is a way to change when the fan kicks on.

Not sure which thermostat we currently have, barely any info on this engine as is. But I try to monitor the Temps with through the AMG cluster when i drive hard to see when it comes on, It's definitely like you said around 110C, I also wasn't driving that hard nor long when my temps rose to 110C. Didn't you track your car munis? Do you remember the temps after your track day? Assuming stock boost at the time. I am curious to see how well the cooling system in this car is, Wondering if anyone experienced heatsoak and at what temps

Yes I did open lap the car back when it was stock. I tried chasing down a Corvette, and when I was really close to it, I think the airflow gets reduced significantly. So the oil temp shot up to 119C and Tranny was 112C. As soon as I backed off though, the temp fell back to 104C extremely fast, almost withint 10 seconds.

What map were you running on the track? Did you compare the temps to map 0 by chance?

This was back when I was bone stock. With just PS4s instead of the factory crapflats.

So cooling is an issue even in a factory form. I come from the cts-v world where superchargers create massive heat. I had to upgrade my intercooler, pumps, radiator, increase the size of all my cooling hoses, and add an icebox in the trunk to keep that car cool. Considering my C43 is a lease, I'm not going to worry about it this time around.

Some of the guys on the Focus RS forum said that they track their cars with oil temp consistently in the 110C to 127C range with no issues. I believe our oil will begin to break down around 135C, so anything under that should be safe for the engine?

I don't want to find out haha. I do my oil changes religiously at 5000km intervals and did one after the track day too.
