Most new cars have no spare tire
Many newer cars now have no spare tire to save on space and fuel efficiency. Just curious when you purchase your new car, did any of you negotiate to have a spare included in the deal or you just get one later or driving without a spare?

Since I have rf tires, no need for a spare at this point. When and if I get regular tires, then a can of fix a flat goes in the trunk.

Companies are just being cheap, this has nothing to do with fuel efficiency! I for one, do not like it. The least they should do (pointing at you Mercedes) is give a set of tools to change your own tires because the OEM runflats are trash. Cheap *******s!

Then how do you explain the switch from steel body panels to more expensive aluminum?

There are various reasons for the lack of spare tires. Staggered tire setup, brakes too big to be cleared by a donut, space in trunk used for other things such as batteries, weight savings... just to name a few. Most people also never check the pressure of their spare tire, so when they do need it, it's flat. It's a flawed model I suppose. Instead most new cars include some kind of road assistance for the first few years and after that it can often be added to one's insurance policy for very little money, or get a AAA membership. In the 20 years I've been driving, I used a spare tire twice, the other times the punctured tire held enough air to continue driving and get it fixed. I do carry a mushroom tire plug kit in the car in case I get caught in the middle of nowhere with a flat and no cell coverage. I would only use the tire goo as a last resort. I do have a full spare tire and wheel in my garage for the current car that I could throw on if I need to, but I only have this because I had to replace one of my wheels and I kept the damaged wheel and a tire that still had some life left.
