New C450 owner here

Wife was looking at a bunch of $40-$50K new sedans and SUV's and last minute I told her to look at Mercedes-Benz. I have never owned one before myself (I'm mainly a Ford guy) but I know they are great cars. Her words were, "Only old people drive Mercedes!" I said lets go take a look I bet you will be surprised.

We found a 2016 C450 AMG with just over 6000 miles in white with black interior. Very clean car and once she put her food down on the gas, she was hooked. I think we got an OK deal but for the price compared to anything new, this car is much better...plus someone else already paid the depreciation!

From a maintenance standpoint, what can I expect? I'm fairly mechanical (owning Fords you have to be!) so I can do oil changes, brakes and such.
Wife will drive the car to work probably putting about 10K miles a year on the car. Long term what are the issues I'm looking at? I went ahead and got the extended warranty till the end of 2022 (two more years) for $2900 but I can cancel before the end of 2020 if needed.

Thanks for any input/suggestions you guys can give on this car.

Congratulations on the new car and welcome to German cars.

I have a 2016 c450 as well and coming to my lease end soon. Mechanically it hasn't been bad at all. Normal maintenance isn't bad. Tires, if you want to stay with run flats you can, or upgrade to non-runflats for a more comfortable ride. My brake light came on at 20k miles and you can buy OEM parts online for cheaper and have an independent shop do the work. My cost for parts were around 850 and that included new pads front and rear, new front rotors and new sensors. Labor was another 450 in my area. Other than that, it's been great. Just keep up the oil change every 10k miles and you'll be fine.

Evoi19 is correct, plan for oil changes and tires (I’m so pleased with non flats since replacing my tires a couple of months back - huge difference. And for brake service, plan for rotors every time you replace pads. Makes for expensive brake jobs but the car has incredible quality brakes (I know, I’ve tracked it and they stop well at 140 mph).

Reslly good car and fine all-rounder. Congrats !

Congrats on your purchase. I have the same car with same interior and exterior color. Bought the car with 7600 miles too a few months back. Car has seen 4 oil changes so normal maintenance is all you need. Make sure you get the latest nav update which is free for the first 3 years I think. Enjoy your new ride!

Have the same car with cranberry interior. I actually preordered the C450 and received mine the first week it was released. Besides from the scheduled oil changes, there has been no other mechanical problems. I did crack my factory driver wheel and replaced them with 19in aftermarket, staggered setups and switched to nonrunflats.

The best thing you can do right now is just have fun!

Enjoy!

Thanks everyone. Any thoughts on what I paid ($2900) for the extended warranty? I know it's only a 2016 so maybe not many reports yet but do these cars (MBZ in general) get a lot of warranty work?

Long term remains to be seen, but $2900 now doesn't seem too bad a price to pay for a potential repair 4 years down the road. MB repairs/failures historically aren't cheap, so one relatively moderate issue could pay for itself rather quickly.

In the meantime, you'll be fine doing your won oil changes, brake jobs, etc. Congrats on the purchase.

I agree, it's a little early but for the most part I think MB nailed it with this model and engine. I haven't seen or heard any major issues with the engine which is great! I'm semi-new to MB and I want to say it's their first bi-turbo in a C-class and it's holding up well. BMW on the other hand was a nightmare. The fuel pump on their first turbo e90/e92 (3 series) was failing left and right!
