Miles to empty
Just had to fill up for the 2nd time with gas since getting my car. I noticed the miles to empty disappeared once it got under 30 miles and I couldn’t find it again. It just said fuel level low. Am I missing something?? |

No, when it gets below 30/40 it will no longer say how many miles you have. It's just time to stop for gas.

Ok thanks! Wish it would tell you all the way down to 0. |
He's right, at that point you have probably about a gallon or two of gas in the tank and as you drive the fuel pump sucks air which is not good. Besides all the crap settles to the bottom of the tank also and you really don't need the pump to work on that. Remember, it calculates the miles to empty based on the your recent consumption so the same number of gallons might read different whether you're idling or driving in stop and go or one the highway. It's a long walk with a fuel gas if anyone even has one anymore.

Coming from someone who's ran multiple vehicles on fumes and 0 miles to empty be nice to your fuel pump:cool:

Yeah, you are missing something. Common sense!

on my 2003 c320 coupe, gas remaining down to 0 miles. don't know why they change it.
|
Just a warning.. the red gas tank symbol right? The range (even when it said you have 30 miles) is an estimate based off recent mileage and driving habits... once you see the low fuel pop up, you should go sooner than later.
|
if you get the engine ecu or fuel pump update (not sure which one), it will go down to 20 miles per gallon. it might be insturment cluster update too. that was always my complaint before was it went to the car symbol too early.
|
It means that you are in the reserve portion of the tank.
|
Driving in the low reserve portion of your fuel tank will wreck the fuel pump. Been warned.
|
Idk, I’ve done it for many years, many different c class. Never had a fuel pump fail or any issues. As long as there is gas in the tank, it will get sucked up. Unless you are on a track or doing hard corners where it could suck up air, even then, your pump won’t over heat instantly. I call this a myth. |

He's right . After the initial warning at 50 km or 30 mi ,if you hit the OK button the mileage will continue to show - I've never let it get below 30 km but I assume it shows all the way to 0..I really like this feature .

after the initial warning, after you press ok, it will continue to show miles. but when it reached the last gallon, like at 25 miles, it will stop showing miles left even after pressing ok. |
All I know is fill up before it hits "W"
W= WALK!. I would not trust accuracy as it is guessing at fuel in tank since sloshing around and actual amount... then it car has no idea how you will drive in couple of miles. And we do not want to get air in fuel lines cause then a PIA to start since you hve to get fuel baco u pto injector fuel rail under pressure which is hard to do with air in line |

I just got a brand new 2019 c300 loaner with 18 miles on it.
on the gas cap, it said use 91 gas. will it harm the engine if i put 87 gas? i kinda feel guilty about it, so i filled it with 91. |

Running empty is bad for the fuel pump. Running empty causes misfires which is bad for the engine and the cats. Misfires are even worse for a forced induction engine than they are for a NA engine.
Running your vehicles low on fuel is dumb for other reasons besides mechanical. Think about natural and man made disasters, or other events that may disrupt the fuel supply chain. |
