Has anyone tracked their 43?
Hi guys, next month I have the great opportunity to experience the AMG complimentary Driving Experience, at their centre near Benz World in Surrey. I'll get one hour in a C43, with tuition to learn the limits etc.
Now, on the SAME day , later on, at Bedford Autodrome, some friends also have a track day booked and will be taking all their own cars - M2 Comps, Mustang, Alpine , 911s etc to name a few. So I was wondering has anyone tracked their OWN 43? This would be such a great day, 1st to learn the limits in an identical, but not my own, car, than drive my car on track a few hours later :-). |
Lots of people take their C43 to a track day ... e.g., here's a bunch of C43 videos:

You always hear about the c63 guys tracking their cars. Also was wondering what tracks folks have used in the north east in the US? Enjoy your new C43! |

Great lap time. Is your car lowered? Front tires roll over too much for me at cayuga and mosport.

lol. I ran a Honda-Michelin car in the West series in the late '80s (yes, I am an old timer). Then I turned it into a GT3 car that ran here regionally for the next 20 years (me for three years then a half dozen other drivers). Properly set up with some of the zillion aftermarket parts - and driven by someone who understands how to get a momentum car around the track - they are quick and LOADS of fun.

I'm going to fit test C63s callipers tomorrow, and plan to order new set of front callipers.

It would be cool to track a demo C43 then take my own one on track literally the same day! But have concerns re the stock brakes. Not because I've experienced problems, just because it's not hard core AMG and if I track it I want to be coasting into the bends, but I'd use them hard and not sure how long the pads would last. |
Stock pads died today)
Waiting for Endless pads, and hope it will fit after some upgrades with cutter |

I've been invited to a track day the same day as the complimentary AMG one , on a different track of course.

Let us know, how did you get on, any pics ?!
Expected to be received by the end of next week. If it will not fit - then will buy C63 callipers. P.S. about stock pads) last week when I was fitting c63 callipers, we checked the pads (front right) and it was about 50%, but it died after 6x15mins track sessions Here are some photos https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...4d8321118f.jpg Suddenly finished front left. Happy to survive))) https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...a599d5d09e.jpg Pads from Right Front. Inside pad still not alerted. Outside pad - 0. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...39eb771012.jpg opposite side of the pad, just to think about temperatures. |
Have tracked the same C43 around Laguna Seca, Spa (in rain and snow) and the Nordschleife in 100F. It's not a track car and is heavy AF but fun nonetheless. Like any car, if you don't know what you're doing and abusing it, then the brakes, tires, etc. are gone in a jiffy. Realize that you won't set any world records in it and it's a fun vehicle to toss around the corners.

Took my C43 to the track for the 3rd time. I've had some bad luck at the track with this car and mind you every track day costs me $700 to register with the company I do it with. The 1st time I blew a hose off the turbo after the first session and there was no boost. 2nd time out after the first lap two wires rubbed the casing off...touched and shorted each other and blew a fuse which sent a code to the computer and the car was running pretty rough. Then this past Tuesday went out and it was a pretty hot day. The car felt like it was pushing in corners so I was playing around with tire pressures to get more grip. I'm assuming the run flats couldn't handle the aggressive corning and gave out on the 3rd session of the day... also the tread just melted off due to all the pushing. I have experience in Motorsports as I raced karts for 13 years so I can confidently say I'm pushing this car to its full potential.
I have to agree with the post above in saying this is not a track car however is a blast to have some fun with. I needed to replace the 2 front tires at the track on this session at a cost of $1000... and another $700 gone as I only got 3 sessions in. Do I try again next week!? https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...38ed4d0c4a.jpg |
