OEM Performance Exhaust option

Tomorrow I'm heading to my local dealer to place my order for a 2020 C43 Sedan. Looking at the options, I was thinking of getting the performance exhaust added, but it does not seem to add any additional HP/TQ, it just simply regulates sound from a console mounted button? Is it really worth it to spend $1250 just to regulate the baffles? Is it better to go with an aftermarket option that actually adds HP/TQ plus better sound like Armytrix for example?

Looking for some opinions from current owners, or is there more to the exhaust that's not listed on the Merc site? TIA

There is no performance gain with the PE exhaust, just sound. However, if you ever want the PE, it cannot be 100% retrofitted after the fact, but you can get close. Purchasing the factory hardware later on is like 5 times the cost the option if you spec it! So be forewarned!

Thanks for clearing that, I have decisions to make for tomorrow.

The PE is the only must-have option for this car, IMO.

It completely changes the character of the car (in a good way).

i did the retrofit after hearing a car with it. I got lucky and got the exhaust very cheap.

I would spec it purely for resale value if anything

Yes, I saw your thread on it, major kudos btw in the DIY write up. I was thinking of going with the Armytrix one as that one does add hp/tq. Going that route will be much more than the OEM PE option. But you do bring up a good point on resale value.

Other than the exhaust components themselves, you will need the rear wiring harness, rear exhaust control unit, the right bank switch unit for the command control panel and programming.

My 2019 Coupe has PE, which was packaged with the steering wheel I wanted. IMO the PE is just noisy and obnoxious and I always leave it turned off except when in Sport+ mode and attacking the twisities out of the city (which accounts for MAYBE 5% of the miles on the car). Given that many seem to like the PE as well as the farts and backfires, having it will likely be a selling point when it comes time to move into another car. If I was ordering a car today (the one I have was already on the lot) that I planned to keep, I'd definitely skip PE. If I was ordering it to drive for a couple of years and sell I'd tick the box.

So I just got back from the dealer, I went ahead and ordered it with PE. I test drove a car with it, its optioned close to what I am getting so I was able to drive with it with PE turned off and on. It is a noticeable change for sure, not as annoying as I thought it would be. My last C63 had the Akrapovic exhaust and that was a wonderful evil tone coming from the 6.2 liter. I understand I cannot replicate that with smaller block but for what it's worth it sounded much better than I expected, so thanks for the input to those that did.

On another topic, since I got to look at the 2020 build sheet, a few things are now becoming standard in the 2020 MY which were options for 2019 and under. Not sure if I should so a separate post on it.

Would love to know what options are becoming standard, please keep us informed!
