2017 C43 whining noise steering wheel (Video)
Hey guys, have any of you notice a whining noise when turning your steering wheel? I attached a video I recorded. Have to turn up volume to hear..
It recently started and I’m curious as to what it can be? It comes from just below the gauge cluster behind the steering wheel. I hear it when the music is down and it tends to happen only when engine is warm.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks and cheers!

Reminds me of this video I came across in the 205 forum
Personally, I don't have the problem, yet...
Seems like a common issue though, there are multiple workarounds posted in the comment section, hopefully it helps.

Here's the other video I was trying to find
Apparently there is a piece of rubber under the steering wheel that requires greasing.
Edit2: the uploader of the other video seems to have fixed it with a car wash so I guess that is a different issue (and it does sound like tire noise rubbing on painted surface so it might not have been an issue after all)

thank you for these videos and reply!.. my warranty expires today. I bought it to the dealer last week to get fixed, they said they adjusted something, but noise is still there when I picked up car. Noise only comes after some time driving when engine has warmed up which is weird. I’ll have to try bringing it back and tell them it isn’t fixed.

I think it is the steering column problem.. I will contact the dealership this week to bring it back in. It shoulders like a motor whining noise.
I brought my car in last month for service all fluids were topped up and good!

I brought my car in last week to Mercedes dealership but they are still trying to figure out the noise and have now contacted MB Canada for what to do. So still waiting. I hope they can figure it out soon. Miss the C43, at least they gave me the new C300 but not the same ride. 2017 C43 way better

I brought it to MB Boundary dealership, they have been good with me, I've gone there since 2010 when I got my first Benz.
Got a text from service advisor, the are ordering and replacing my steering column, which is what i figure was the sound. Not sure when I'll get the car back but I'm sure that will fix it.

Yeah the basic 2020 C300 class feels cheap for the price! Steering wheel feels cheap, paddle shifters are black plastic, etc..

Got my steering noise finally fixed! The put in a new steering column and boom - noise is gone, steering is now quiet and smooth!.. Got it covered under warranty
So any of you with the winning sound from steering inside, you need a steering column.
Cheers!

Actually noticed the steering wheel is off to the right by maybe 1-2 degrees. Have to slightly hold it to the right to drive straight.. But easy fix I can do, take off airbag and centre bolt and adjust!
Hopefully no more problems... I want to keep this car for a long time!

Let the dealer fix it instead.

Yeah will do, weird how the noise was gone for the first week then came back even worse than before... Mercedes will call me sometime next week to book the car in again. I decided to also leave the off-centre steering wheel to fix for them as well... Hopefully they can fix it!
My buddy who got a 2019 GLE 43 AMG also having random problems... Disappointed in Mercedes, feel like their quality has gone down, love the design and styling of them but wish they lasted as what the price they cost is like!
