Soon to be new owner questions.
Hey guys, I'm in the market for a C43 Finally found one I love. It's a 2017 blue, 31,000 miles for $38,000. I would love suggestions on a good intake System. Would also like to know if these Race tune chips that just plugin to the obd2 are legit. Is it really just as easy as plug and play? Lastly, what is the difference between these 2 gear knobs
? Thanks.
? Thanks.

That's not a gear knob, that's the input controls for the Infotainment system. The one in addition to the jog wheel is a touchpad controller for additional input options such as handwriting a navigation address letter by letter, or pinch and stretch for zooming the map, or swiping to navigate the UI. It's generally there if the car has the full COMAND system, but I've recently learned that it can also be there if the car doesn't have the COMAND system on some model years.

No, not really. Somebody claimed that the touchpad was standard on 2017 models, but I haven't verified that. Best to decode the VIN and see what options the car has you are interested in.

If you're looking for a tune, an actual ECU flash, go Eurocharged. If you're looking for a piggyback, go JB4, it's as simple as that. Avoid AMR, because they are beyond sketchy and have grenaded multiple motors, but have "influenced" the websites to take down the evidence. It happened here 2 weeks ago, and they run a FB page that doesn't announce that it's their site, but they delete everything that is detrimental to their brand and they endanger people that don't want to hurt their warranty. Sketchy company.

Since you are still shopping, look for one with performance exhaust. You can tell easily by looking at the center knob area to the right, there few buttons from volume control wheel, PE button, eco start/stop. Best feature imo.

Seriously, I don't know why the performance exhaust is even an option. They should really include it from the factory for ALL AMGs. If someone wanted an AMG as oppose to the regular version, why would they NOT want it to sound as sporty as possible?

Pull the trigger and bought this one off Vroom. The only thing I would like to change is the silver lip to black. Should I just go to a regular body shop to have a painted? DIY threads?

Just as how superwiss explained it. To add to him, the exhaust system is completely different. It is retrofittable but not easy.
Please see the thread below:

Here is one of the images showing how the two exhaust compares (the picture source is from the link I linked you above):

I helped you find some videos of the pfl car without the performance exhaust (PE) which they only have the standard sport exhaust:

JB4 comes preprogrammed with progressively more aggressive maps, but you can also create custom boost maps as well if you decide you want to push it further. For many, or those not wanting to take the plunge on the custom side, the base map1 and slightly more aggressive map2 more than check the box on the butt-dyno. JB4 is the lowest stakes solution while still delivering great power. Based on the questions you're asking, this is the solution for you.

Just checked out the euro charge tune for my car. The stage one adds to 120 horsepower! I would love that extra power but I know That's a lot of stress on the motor. I was hoping for maybe just Add additional 30WHP. curious with the euro charge, will it always be high boost? or can you set up a toggle switch for high and low.

Keep in mind that 120hp claim, or any other claims from a piggyback like JB4 or other ECU tunes are at the crank, which means it's not anywhere near that when it gets to the wheels due to drivetrain loss and the C43 being AWD will suffer even more losses. It will feel faster, but it's definitely not 120hp faster.

Not only that, but the claims generally are based on high octane fuel. Most of these tunes essentially extract more power from the engines by increasing the minimum required octane. Factory tunes make their rated power with 91 octane. But pretty much all aftermarket tunes don't come anywhere near their claimed power on 91 octane fuel.

It's optimistic to think that every C43/C450 will run just as well, but it does happen. The fastest JB4 only cars I've seen have run 11.4, with better than 93 octane. The quickest JB4 + WMI and no other mods was 11.1.

My take away so far.....I can't imagine driving the car in its quiet modes LOL loving the noise it makes.

I'm going to disagree with high octane fuel and add that yes, it's probably 120 hp at the wheels. Consider that recently, on this forum, a C450 ran 11.5's on an EC stage 1 tune at 121 mph, using 93 octane fuel. That's an identical mph to the C63s, but a full 1/2 second faster. I'll let you do the math, but a 362 hp car ran faster by a wide margin than a 503 hp car. 141 hp difference stock. 15% driveline loss is a fairly common number that people throw around.

@Herrerrera Welcome to the platform! we are coming out with an intake in July that draws air from the FRONT of the car as opposed to sitting on top of the hot turbos like the ones currently on the market.
Lots of positive comments from the folks that have seen prototype mock up pics of the kit. give us a couple of months and we'll give you cold dense air !

So how much power does the JB4 add? Also I'm not interested in doing downpipe and exhaust. So that's another reason I don't want a ton of extra HP
