AMG Badge-ing?

New to the platform and I've noticed some have the AMG badge on the front and or rear and some don't. Mine personally, a 16', does not. It has it on the side though, as like an "amg sport" type of badge. Whats the reasoning if any?

Hello and welcome!
MB has been watering the AMG moniker down the last couple of years to increase sales of non AMG cars. No one really knows why.

Enjoy the ride!

C43
2016 was the c450. 2017 and on is the AMG c43. Besides the 7g c450 transmission versus the 9g c43 transmission, they are the same car.

Don't understand why a 43 or 53 is watering down the AMG line? And how does one decide if a car is amg or non-amg? isn't it up to Mercedes and "AMG" to decide what should be considered AMG or not? Don't understand what hurts you so much, is it the AWD, non V8 or better gas mileage and newer tech? there are 43 & 53 that will run circles around the old 63s, so what is giving you the heartburn? Not trying to be offensive, just want to understand mano to mano Maybe it's time you try out a new AMG as your 2012 is nearly a decade old now, you never know how much more you might actually appreciate it.

From what I've been reading on other threads, it's almost always "Purest" who say none AMG hand built motor equals non AMG car. I'm no means poking fun at purist, just stating what I've seen.

It's huge in the Porsche world as well as the newer BMW world, for example, the Z4 M440i model. It's not an M car but basically IS an M car. Was looking at one before I chose my c450.

Because the diluted AMG's are blatantly about expanding the brand and not building the best performance one can, independent of price. In the opinions of many, including my own, unless it's a hand built engine from Affalterbach it's nothing more than marketing. This allows AMG to be profitable, not sure how much money would be made (or lost) if they only made the higher line engines. Performance alone does not qualify an AMG. I'm sure the new 53's are great drivers, but I would never get one on the basis that it's an AMG. Just a step up from a base 4 banger.
