Tuner Shootout
For those of you who have forgot, a couple of guys (DadsC63 and jrcart) have offered their cars to any tuners that would be willing to tune them. In an effort to get the best bang for the buck.
Wow, from what I hear, this is getting interesting. DadsC63 dynoed with a "clean" MKB tune and pulled 461 rwp and 412 rwtq. Can't wait to see what MHP (Andy) has up his sleeve to top that. I can't believe there's much more to get out of these motors, but if anyone can do it, I'm sure it's Andy. Good luck guys.

They are asking the tuners to custom tune their car on a dyno and directly compare each tune to the other in an effort to see who has the best tune. It would be done on the same car, same dyno, same day, same conditions, etc..... they're just trying to minimize (not eliminate) most of the varying factors.

I thought DadsC63 was currently running the MHP V3 tune with the MKB headers? Is the 461 rwhp with the MHP tune or MKB tune?
If I recall correctly, MHP's C63 with their long tube headers and tune put out around 465 rwhp? Either way, it seems DadsC63 hybrid setup and MHP's car are 2 of the fastest C63s around. Can't wait to here more updates, summer is fast approaching and I need mo powa!

BTW-Why is it so quiet from MHP. Is Andy still banned?

I can't imagine any tuner doing this, but it should be cool! Also, keep in mind that some of these AMG cars leave the factory MUCH stronger than others - at RENN we saw as much as 10-15 whp difference in stock 63s.
Best test? Same car, same day, same dyno, multiple ECUs.

I want to clarify what the results represent. I offered my car to be used in a tuner comparison. I originally purchased the entire Stage II MKB package. The power was good but I wanted more. I tried the MHP tune and Andy got a little more so I stayed with Andy. When all this tuner competition came up I contacted MKB to be fair and they wanted in. I purchased another brand new ECU, had it initialized, and then sent it to MKB for their latest tune. The results listed are with the new MKB tune. Just so we always compare equally I will give you the facts on the car.
Bone stock car with 1500 miles dyno'd 359 to 361rwhp. I have the dyno sheets if anyone wants to see them.
Current test conditions:
MKB Shorty Headers
MKB Downpipes
Stock front cats are still in place.
Rear cats are deleted.
Stock resonator and exhaust is in place.
K&N Air filters and the charcoal filters are still in place.
Dyno was done in fourth gear using manual mode.
Dyno mode was NOT used.
Any other questions?
We made six passes with the MKB tune and they were all 459 to 461rwhp. Torque was 408 to 412rwtq. I will post the dyno sheets Monday for your review.
MKB has stepped up and given us their best and its a monster.
I am waiting for Andy and his tuner to come down and work their magic. Is any other tuner interested? Please understand that I am only doing this to give all of us a fair comparison of different tunes on the same car under similar conditions. So far so good. I will keep you posted as things occur.
God Bless,
Keith

Get to the track. Dynos are only dynos.. I have see some tune set for high TQ and HP early on and other tunes have the HP/TQ up high. How you drive and how your car responds make a huge change in the tunes. I bet you can find many cars with higher HP/TQ #'s that loose races to cars with lower #'s. So ask yourself do you want to have HIGH #'s or WIN races If you can't use it you loose it..

Kleemann Results
My car is running a Kleemann K2 package and I have dyno pulls on the same machine that Keith uses, in fact we were trying to do back to back testing on Friday but time became an issue so my results were a day later. For the sake of comparison, Kleemann offers a package that is considerably less expensive than most with a tune at $1500 and shortyheaders /downpipes / high flow cats that can be found at various prices. This option may appeal to those who want to greatly enhance the cars performance, maintain conservative variables such as A/F mix but realize that it is not a "Top Gun" choice.
My Kleemann package produced:
423rwhp and 381rwtq with an a/f mix : 5000rpm=12.3 7000rpm=11.9
Just looking at the MKB headers vs the Kleemann you see a huge difference where the MKB looks like a small verion of LT's and the Kleemann looks much like a stock EM.
Would I like more power? especially since I am not quite getting the "up to numbers" that are advertised. But the car sounds incredible(will post video link of burnout and fly by later) and is 60rwhp stonger than stock.
Track day with Keith make take place this week and we will post updates.

Nice results Keith and congrats to MKB on a job well done. We'll be down shortly to try and improve upon our numbers; looking at the A/F #s from both our and MKBs tune there's definitely more left on the table.
Mo,
I believe Keith dyno's in 4th gear on 100 octane.
nrgy,
Our C63 put down 462rwhp/435rwtq SAE on 93 octane in 5th gear. We'll be dyno tuning our C63 shortly after Keiths, Ricks and Jeffs, at which time the 3" catback will also be on. I have what is essentially a v1 Stage 2 tune in the car now--meaning it's not even as aggressive as a v3 Stage 1 tune--after doing around 4 weeks of logging A/F is solid across the board (a tad rich but better that than lean) so we have a great baseline to work off of for our LTs.
After that I can finally throw the 2800rpm stall converter in and head back to the track to take Keith's record away from him

Next week looks....so far so good...for Gainesville. Too bad all the cold weather is gone. Oh well, should still put down some great times/ speeds. Car definitely feels like a monster still...
