Taking my 2009 C63AMG w/PP LSD to Sebring 5/02

This will be my first DE event. Am really looking forward to see how she does on the track. I had a 997 S but I was too paranoid to take it to the track. After this event I'll probably be wishing I had. Has anyone taken their car to Sebring or any other venue for that matter? Any tips would be appreciated!

Back in the day I had an M3 Competition Package I put on the track (Gingerman Raceway in Michigan.) My only advice is don't be in a hurry. Start off slow and learn how the car reacts to the various turns on the track and more importantly observe the track. Watch other drivers "lines" and see how they go around the track and get a feel for where the apex is for every turn. Don't be in a hurry to push the limits because you won't know what those are until you end up in a gravel trap. My first few laps I was "sunday driving" just to feel everything out. Then faster, faster, and faster the rest of the day. Have fun.

Oh, and leave ESP on. Then when you get a little more comfortable, switch to sport. I wouldn't shut off ESP completely unless you are very talented behind the wheel.

Update

So I took my stock c63 to Sebring this past weekend and all I can say is WOW! Everyone should take their car to the track. I do have the PP with LSD and had placed new rear tires before the event (4000 miles)

The brakes never faded and I am telling you they were put to full use. One straight away I reached around 130-135 (not much time to look) and then you have a 90 degree right turn! Threshold braking throughout the track. Each session was about 30 minutes.

An absolute blast and the car is much better than I am a driver.

Nice! I'm going to have my first track weekend with the C63 5/16 & 5/17. Looking forward to wringing her out a little after I see how the car reacts in that environment and get a feel for the track.

lol, my friend and i took our cars to Pocono raceway on 5/2, and it was fun!!!!! we met some great people and had a wonderful time. Too bad it was my first time on the track with such a powerful car, i had to let S2000/Mustang GT/WRX to pass me. lol, shame on me! on the track, skill>car
i think a S2000 is better for a beginner such as me!

like what op said, i highly suggest fellow c63 drivers to take your cars to the track, its totally a different driving experience that you would never have on the streets.
and i find myself driving less of a douche on the street ever since i came back from the track.

Did you keep the transmission in M or S?

auto ESP Sport

I kept the car in Auto ESP Sport for the most part. Although it seems easy, when I used the paddle shifters I would lose focus. I imagine using a manual 6 speed would come more natural.. BTW I set my front tire pressure to 35 and rears at 37 psi. It seemed to work fine but I did not try to tweak the pressures at all.

Don't feel bad -- a well set-up S2000 is killer on the track! It's a great car for beginners or anyone! Not having to worry about "bending" your $70K, 4000lb German tank means you have a lot more fun IMO. There are some extremely fast track S2K's here in California.

I'm sorry, I'm not meaning to be a jerk - but the transmission IS an Automatic (there is no Auto mode). If I read you right, you had the ESP in Sport mode but I was curious if you had the transmission in Comfort, Sport, or Manual. I ask because I'm pretty unsatisfied with the slow shifts of the Manual mode and think I would probably choose S (Sport) mode for a DE. Just wanted your thoughts.

The car has its slow shifts in Manual mode only when you're driving at really low speeds...But once you're moving at higher speeds and especially when you put the pedal to the medal and shift, the shifts are almost instant on my car...So I reall don't know what you're talking about...

When you're in S (Sport mode), then yes the shifts are slow to go into the next gear at whatever speed you're traveling in...

But like I said, in manual mode it's completely different.

Hmm...I've shifted at WOT in 2nd and 3rd gear and gotten shifts that take ~1 second or so. Extremely poor compared to F1 style gearboxes or any manual. I wonder if there is a way to "train" it to shift faster - I know the S mode shifting is adaptive to your driving style. MHP supposedly can tune the TSU for much faster shifts.
