Fixed Loose Gas Cap.. CEL still on?

So I was driving around tonight and the loose gas cap message came on, so i was like , so I got out and fixed it. I noticed later that my CEL was on (I can't guarantee they came on simultaneously or the CEL came on later). By reading the gas cap it says it may cause CEL, but I just wanted to check if this is something I should be worried about? Does it really sometimes just take a while for the CEL to reset?

This happened to me a few weeks back and I took it to the dealer. They said that it was a "software error" and updated the computer. After I got the car back and a few weeks later, I got the loose cap message again with a flassing fuel pump icon in the dash for about two minutes. It went away and has not returned as of yet.

If the CEL is on, take it in.

Hi guys, I had that exact same problem and here is what they told me at the dealership:

Sometimes when you fuel your car, you get air bubbles in the gasoline. These bubbles will go into the fuel line to the engine where the pressure is monitored and get stuck in there. The fuel pipe will have the wrong pressure measured thus the computer thinks the fuel cap is not closed properly.

The manual did say that this will cause the CEL to turn on. The dealer changed something for me but I forgot what the part is... something inside the fueling system, and now it's fine. Hope this help!

For my previous Audi, I think the guy said that that the CEL for that car will go away after like 8 times of stopping and starting the engine.

The C63's have a problem with purge valves intermittently failing, there is
an updated part number and software available

Got the same issue with only 400 miles on it. It freaked me out but after reading this thread I feel better. Taking it in tomorrow.
