Ya, Fletcher Jones is full of crap as usual. Unfortunately have to use them for servicing the car though. Did Vegas_AMG get his at South Bay too?

Regarding the K1 mod I think I would be in as well. Maybe he can cut us a better deal if 2 or 3 of us do it. Althoug I would still like to see a dyno on it especially with regard to low end. Not going to be going 100+mph around Vegas that often....
I am not tuned yet. But it would be nice if all three of us get it done the same time. Would be nice if we get a price cut. Vegas_AMG also bought from the same dealership. Weird...and we all live closeby.

SFLGATOR-I do not know who the Kleeman dealer is in your part of the country. I just happened to talk with James and he mentioned it to me.

rue, but it would seem that the $1,495 Kleemann K1 ecu flash is comparable to the $3,495 RENNTech upgrade 2 ecu flash...which seems crazy to me that RENNTech would charge > 2x as much.
Renntech overprices all of their products so its no surprise at all. And yes, it is the same tune that kleeman offers for more than half the price!

Hey, also...you're in Central FL...any local tuners offer the Kleemann ecu flash at their shop (instead of shipping the ecu to Kleemann USA in CO)?
Renntech has a great reputation but a price tag to go with it. Even the big time tuning shops send your ecu away for tuning unless it's a dealership that can flash on site. Then they tack on a surcharge for removing and reinstalling it. Two words of advice: Fed Ex

This isn't new to those who are more than quite familiar of Renntech pricing vs. Kleemann's. Like another member stated, Renntech comes with a big price tag, if you can get Kleemann for a sale price it's an even better deal as both are top tuners. On Renntech's website their ECU 2 upgrade got a C63 doing 414rwhp and 388rwtq (351rwhp and 343rwtq were stock baseline numbers). That's 505hp and 473 ft-lbs of torque.

On Dragtimes, E63PWR's C63 with a Kleemann tune did 424rwhp (376rwhp baseline) which is 517hp to the crank. All numbers were calculated using a 18% drivetrain loss.

I remember Kleemann's ECU tuning and parts sale for the 55K and V12TT cars, can't go wrong at all. I'm glad MB has such top tuners with great products, it just makes more sense to get the one that costs less if they both yield similar results.

Well, ok then...if I get an ECU Flash, then it will be the Kleeman K1 then. Thank you. Just thought since RENNTech is so close to me (WPB, FL), then it would be easier (no shipping invloved...just go there and have them do it while I wait...but not worth 2-3x the price of Kleemann ), but I guess I would have to plan 2-3 days without driving my car due to the FedEx'ing the ECU to/from Kleemann.

2009 C63 K1
I looked at Renntech because local dealer was authorized Renntech dealer as well. Way too much money though. I had my car Dyno'ed before getting the K1 so that I would know if it was worth it. It Dyno'ed at 373 RWHP in 5th. I never dyno'ed after tune because it was such a noticeable difference after the K1. I spoke with another guy who did K1 and got 414 RWHP on dyno.

Yep another proven result similiar to Renntech without Renntech pricing, why not save the rest of the money for other mods or perhaps put it towards an intake, headers, etc.

Looking at those numbers you provided, the Renntech ECU 2 gained 63rwhp and the Kleeman tune gained 48rwhp. Why are you comparing those figures? Kleeman managed 12.7% increase while Renntech squeezed 18% increase over stock. Of course the Renntech package costs more.. I'm not negotiating - just crunched some numbers....

Those are not factual numbers. Both tunes are about the same gains and some people have gotten 60+ hp for the Kleemann tune. It just depends on the weather and conditions in which the dyno is done and not every car is the same

Someone beat me to it...

Did you do a baseline dyno-run prior to your upgraded tune?

In my mind, that's about the only way to really determine how much mods truly are adding to your car's power.

I recall a few years ago a story/thread (LONG thread) about a guy with an E55, on these very forums, that was hating life because he didn't get a baseline run, for he was unable to determine what his modifications added to it once he finally got it on the dyno. And he spent some serious dough too--I think it was a Stage III upgrade or something like that. When he finally DID get it on the dyno, the results were nowhere near what was advertised and there was huge controversy...

Good luck to you guys who upload mail-order tunes. In my mind, it's very risky, for each car is different and likes different attributes. In other words, what one car might respond to very well in terms of timing, AF ratio, etc might NOT work on another car, despite the fact they are supposed to be the same.

Personally, I had a BAD experience with TWO seperate mail order tunes on my CTS-V1, and this guy was supposedly the "best" out there and everyone on the forums ranted and raved about him. When I finally got it on the dyno, and re-tuned it to my specific car, the numbers bore out a huge difference and I felt it SOTP.

Further, several of our CTS-V2 members are having significant issues right now with mail order tunes.

NOTE--I DO hope for the best and I'm not trying to be a party-pooper. I'm just interested as to why it's not commonplace, especially on this forum, to recommend getting a baseline run before doing ANYTHING.

Perhaps I'm missing something though...I'm simply trying to learn is all.

Just had my schedule A done today at the dealer where I purchased the car. They are not known as being mod friendly but with a little advance communication there were no problems. My car has a K2 package with rear cats deleted and makes serious noise to say nothing of the Kleemann badge on the rear.

To make it short, if the car before pulled like a train, now the car pulls like a freakin airplane, literally. There is much more power in 4th and 5th specially from 70-130 MPH. I have yet to notice any change in shifting speed but the throttle lag that used to bother me at times when stepping on the pedal is gone ( like some people that have the tune have mentioned ). Take note that all of this was just during my first half an hour with the tune. I have driven about 50 miles so far and i'm still in the "break in" process for the ECU. I suppose by the weekend the ECU shud be fully broken in and right in time for a race against an IS-F on saturday morning

In resume, this is probably the best bang for your buck you can do to the car. It not only makes it much quicker at virtually any speed but also gets rid of the throttle lag. Will post more as i put more miles on her!
What was the total out the door and in your car price for the K1 package?

Talk with a few of the service advisors and if you find one that seems to appreciate MB performance in general then open up the conversation ragarding warranty issues. The SA I worked with had already handled a friends modded car and he essentially ran interference through the process and ensured that the ecu programing was not touched. A little appreciation $$ when picking up the car is a good move to ensure a long happy relationship.

I've just gotta' toss this one into the mix.

Klee Stage 1 before and after dyno's and I quote from the post:
For those having trouble understanding what they're looking at, this car picked up 75hp and almost 60 lb-ft of torque... on 91 octane!
