Unfortunately, for the Cdn winter, I'm afraid you'll need new rims. You need to have the same size on 4 wheels and with 245, you'll just surf on snow or slush. Unless you only take your car for city driving when the road conditions are dry but weather may not be that predictable.

I love these polls. There is absolutely NO perfect setup. What's it for? What are your winter conditions? Think about it - if you have streets that are cleared almost immediately, and it snows about 7-10 times total per year but is freezing cold the rest of the time - then a wider tire with a soft compound makes sense. If you live in a place that forbids salting of the roads and it snows every week throughout the whole winter and it takes plows days to get to you - then narrow tires make more sense, perhaps even studded ones too boot.
That being said, only recommendation I would be comfortable in making not knowing the rest is buy non staggered. Then you can at least have one set of tires you rotate saving some money.

Personaly:
Spend the $1000 on a cheap front wheel drive beater, instead of smaller rims and snow tires.
No matter what tire you use, ANYTHING that will clear your brakes, will NOT make for a GOOD snow/ice situation. And of course what could happen when you slide. Notice I said when, NOT If
Save the wear and tear on your NICE car, put it in the garage, and BEAT the **** out of a cheapy FWD.
Just my $.02

The C of 63's
I just ordered 235/40/18 from tunerworks in calgary. Is there a reason that that size is not on the list? You have me worried know. I plan on putting them on the stock rims. Has anyone on here drove their 63 all winter in calgary? Mine arives this week and coming from and S4 I'm a little worried.

No problems with rear fitment?
I just ordered the same size 235/40/18 all around and just want to be sure that they will fit on the rears. The tire guy told me they would but I had a little trouble with that. So, if you did it and had no trouble that's enough for me.
I bought Dunlop Winter 3D's. Pretty highly rated at Tire Rack. We'll see!!

Having the second set of 18s allows you to rotate front to rear. That in itself might be worth the cost of admission. Do these cars go through winters as fast as summers?
