fail: first attempt with plastidip on rear emblem
the hardest part was getting the 3 interior sections out... i failed on the first section but the other 2 came out well... so i ended up having to rip out the center and some how i was left with just the outside...
there were a few edges left on the tips of the star so i cleaned that up... but i ended up with just the circle in matte black...
i'm out of time and daylight to try this again today so i'll leave that for next time.
for now, i'll have to look at this in the morning to see if i like this

i didn't want to remove the badge... i didn't even think the rear emblem was just stuck on
i was thinking of doing that, but i still would have needed to remove the badge
that's going to be my next thing, but i think the grill will be easier since i can remove it... trying to work around the edges with the badge still on was a little harder than i thought...

Not sure if your emblem is attached the same as the the E55, but you should be able to slide sheets of paper in behind the star. Thats what I did anywho. Taping looks really un-fun.

originally, i was going to stick the tape but then i thought it might be harder to pull off since it'll stick to the tape and it might stretch... anyway... if at first you don't succeed...

I did the same and they came out great. I actually bought some spare emblems and used those to play with. It's easier when they are off the car. They are inexpensive, $5 for the rear and around $14 for the front.

The rear star actually comes off pretty easily. It's held on with two pins that slide into sleeves in the trunklid. Just use a spudger and pry each side up a little bit at a time. Makes painting/dipping/whatever much easier.
