*** 25.2 mpg on the highway for C63. What's your best mpg? ***
 

I have noticed that C63's have better than advertised fuel economy during hwy driving. I also have noticed that city driving produces more fuel efficient numbers than 12 mpg.

My car averaged 25.2 mpg last night on the freeway. My average speed (mph) was 73-74 mph. My total trip was approximately 48 miles.

My car has BMC filters, ROW box tops, no carbons, and Hankook rear tires. Everything else is stock (except for the door pins :D).

This thread is meant to be lighthearted and fun. Who can show the best fuel economy for our pollution machines?

But, this thread is also meant to be serious. "Why" you ask? Because, if I'm getting 6.2 mpg better fuel economy than what is advertised for this car, driving at 73-74 mph, which isn't exactly the optimal speed to maximize fuel economy, then I'm mad about three things:

1) Did this car really need a gas guzzler tax?

2) With all the "need for green" talk, fears about carbon emissions (lame carbon filters), energy independence!!!, I can drive my car in a way that gets 6.2 mpg better fuel economy than what is advertised.

3) If carbon filters must be installed by the factory, then why aren't better flowing air filters a requirement as well?

Final question: Has anyone that drives a C63 gotten better than 25.2 mpg with stock paper filters and the carbon filters in place.

My best average for a "Full Tank" is 20.403 MPUSG.

My Average for 6246 kilometers (3881 miles) is 7.66 K/L; 13.05 L/100K; 21.64 MPCanG and 18.02 MPUSG.

I don't bother with anything less than an average per fill up.

My DIC tells me I have done 6262 Kilometers and average 12.5L/100K. That equals 8.0 K/L; 22.60 MPCanG and 18.41 MPUSG. So the DIC is pretty close but reading a little high probably because of rounding.

I drive in C mode most of the time and let the car select the gear as you can probably tell. :)

I understand that a full tank is an average all to itself. But, it's amazing how much more fuel efficiency is available in these cars than commonly known.

It has to do with where you're driving and how you're driving. That's why a full tank average is important but it cannot reflect pure hwy driving because you will always enter and exit a freeway at some point, either to reach your destination or visit a gas station.

My full tank averages obviously are not anywhere near 25.2 mpg. But, I can attain that average and more (by lowering my speed) on the freeway.

Before the headers I use to get 22 to 23 mpg on the highway.

The drive down to Atco after my header install I got about
20 mpg. Driving about 70 to 80 mph.

It's the city driving the kills me, especially with the extra power
and sound from the headers. I can't help but want to hear
this beast scream every chance I get.:naughty:

Haha! I can only imagine. I listen to my exhaust more than I listen to music. If I had headers on this car, I don't think I would use the radio very often. :)

I agree, it's hard to keep the foot out of the gas with this N/A car. It just wants to pull for you, but it drinks a lot of fuel when you drive to feed it. haha

24 mpg hwy 60 mile trip going 75-80 mph

Different platform (E63) but same engine, I was able to hit 24.1 mpg on a 130 miles trip :)

btw, the charcoal filters are for reverse emissions when the car is parked, idoling, etc. if im not mistaken

This is fantastic news to my ears!! I still remember when I first picked up the car and saw only 16 miles per gallon on the highway at 70. Thankgod it can actually get some decent numbers.

really dumb question makes me look stupid but is it true that if u drive in manual or sport it consumes more gas??

It depends. In traffic it hurts because it shifts to 1st. Comfort starts of in 2nd.

BTW I get 23 on highway cruising. City-sucks.

You are correct.

The point I was trying to make (and I admit it was confusing) was that charcoal filters are mandated for pollution control because like you said "reverse emissions."

So, my point is that perhaps high flow air filters can help this car acheive better mpg. If so, shouldn't that also be mandated.

But, I'm seeing from other members here, based on their experience, that the air filter theory may not hold true.

I would say Sport or Manual will consume more gas than Comfort.

I believe there are more differences between the three transmission modes than shift speed and the gears that the car will take off from.

The maps feel very different from Sport to Comfort. And because like you said, Sport and Manual will start from 1st, so the rpm pickup is quicker.

Just my opinion.

Also in comfort it shifts much sooner than sport. Thus giving better gas mpg. I love manual mode the blip downshifts-ahh.

this is just a pleasure car for me so MPG is a complete non-issue for me and my daily driver is another huge V8 Ford F-150 (luckily I'm able to expense all of my fuel for work)--I've never been one to care about MPGs and thankfully by the time gasoline is really expensive here in the US, I'll have plenty of plug-in sports cars, etc. to choose from--thanks greenies! Pedal to the medal for me, pump that CO baby!:zoom: God, I just miss those styrofoam McDonald containers, they were so much fun to throw out the window while driving:eek:

On the topic of back seats. I actually put 2 bicycles from the trunk. Of course with the seats down. Fortunately I don't travel far with them like back in the day where there were Pro-elite races. Now its a local thing.

I've always thought that judging people by their commitment to the environment and adhering to general littering laws was highly overrated. :D

:word:14.8 over the life of car at 14k miles. Best trip saw 21 mpg. I regularly get the stated 12 mpg when limited to "around town" driving.

You too? So far for me, I get an average of 12-13 mpg between fill ups. I get giddy when I see 17 . lol:zoom:
