OBDII Readiness Monitors (Can't pass emissions test)

All,

We can't pass an emissions test because the readiness monitors for:

OBD CATALYST
OXY SNSR
OXY SNSR HEATER

are "INC" or Incomplete

Does anybody know the step by step Drive Cycle procedure for the C63 to get these cleared?

Jons95c36amg 02-18-2011 07:15 PM

You have to drive more to make it complete. CEL? Mods?

Vegas_AMG_C63 02-18-2011 07:27 PM

No Check Engine Light, No Pending or Stored Codes in OBDII.

Each Manufacturer has a specific procedure that, if you follow it and your car is in the proper condition, will clear the monitors.

i.e. Here is a general guide that works on most cars: http://www.lyberty.com/car/drive-cycle.html

However, I've tried this 2x so far and the monitors have not yet cleared since I have a deadline for an emissions test.

So I'm looking for any information about the specific test condition (procedures) that will clear these monitors which appear to be unpublished for Mercedes / AMG.

I'm clear about what's happening here, just need the test procedure.

Otherwise, eventually they will clear by just driving the car and accomplishing each of the tasks that will clear the monitors by running into real world conditions that will allow me to meet the requirements of the system tests but that may take 750 miles or longer.

It doesnt take 750miles to make it complete. I also have a obd-II and mine had the oxygen sensors incomplete. I drove for maybe couple hundred miles and it was ready for emission test. Actually passed emissions last month.

Awhile ago, I saw something similar to this types of steps in startekinfo.com, to be done following an ECU or TCU reset or reprogram. I thought then that it was to re-teach different driving conditions to the ECU, but I have a feeling it may have been to run through ODBII minitoring steps. I wish I had saved it...

@ Jons95c36amg:

Thanks for the comments / advice... I do know that it also depends a bit on your driving habits.

For instance one of the tests involves driving at locked in 55mph for so many minutes and this has to happen on several drive cycles to clear the monitor.

I never drive the car this way, I drive it like a German SuperCar! So it's helpful to get the test procedure so that I can get them cleared in 15 minutes instead of hundreds of miles of trying to drive like a boyscout.

I've done this with plenty of other cars in the past except I can usually find the procedure and just knock it out.

@ Cyberorth:

It would be great to have this info on the site if you run across it again!

Best!

can someone help me with my fiber optic system?

@ Jons95c36amg:
No disrespect intended. I'm not saying you don't drive hard... I have no idea. Iit sounds like you're a drag guy from your sig so you're likely quick on the street also. I'm just saying that my monitors have not cleared yet and there is a procedure to knock this out quickly. It would be great to get it posted up here to save everyone some time!

If anyone has it... please post it up!

Try posting your question in a new topic instead of one titled : OBDII Readiness Monitors (Can't pass emissions test) which is meant for a completely different purpose!

You're likely to see that people will respond with useful information.

Does the car have a tune? Mine failed for the exact same reasons. Turned out I had an early Kleemann tune where they shut off the O2 sensors. After a reflash to a new rev tune car past the same day I reinstalled the ECU.

ohlord 02-18-2011 10:18 PM

Question

would be. Why are they set as not ready?
Have you recently erased a cel? Disconnected the battery?
While you reply to those two,I will try to locate the readiness cycle.
You should be allowed one not ready at least.

jza80 02-19-2011 01:53 AM

Not passing the O2S heater does not make sense unless the sensors are disabled. There is no drive cycle for the heater, it is just a current/circuit test. The catalyst monitor needs the rear O2S to run, so if these are disabled it will never run. Just FYI.

Wondered if that would stand out lol.

OT, but joined the forum to get some info to help a friend with an engine swap for a 380SL, but have been lurking here for awhile as I am seriously thinking about getting a 2009 or 2010 C63.

Kleeman K1

JeffDL 02-20-2011 10:10 PM

It's 100% the tune. Contact Cory reflash is free.

Vegas_AMG_C63 02-21-2011 02:39 PM

Thanks, I'll connect with KLEEMAN... what's funny is that the monitors have cleared according to my OBDII reader but the state machines still show that they are set.

Oh great............

Vegas: When did you get your tune done?

Vegas_AMG_C63 02-21-2011 05:47 PM

The last flash was April, 2010...

GHAZAN 02-21-2011 05:58 PM

Maybe Cory can explain who needs to update their tune or when these changes were made so it can be fixed in advance....?

Is your car black? I saw a black one going EB on Trop right before Ft Apache last Wed around 5:30 pm. I called Vegas_AMG and he said it wasn't him. Perhaps it was you?

Let's see if the new reflash will take care of it. This this will be the second thread on a K1 tune not passing emissions before an update was done. The first thread involved a tune done before 9/09, IIRC. My K1 was done on 9/09 and I am up for emissions this June.

Vegas_AMG_C63 02-22-2011 02:18 PM

@ Sincity: Yes, this likely was me... Black with GunMetal F14's and Carbon Fiber exterior parts.

I'm sending the ECU back to Kleeman today and will keep you all updated if there are any related issues.

Cool. Vegas_AMG and I live in the SW. Whereabouts are you? There was another guy that lives in Red Rock; forgot his SN.

Keep us all posted. I hope this K1 issue is isolated. It is just a hassle. The OP in the other thread passed emissions once he was reflashed.

The title seems relevant to me. In fact, I'm looking for the exact same thing about how to set the readiness code for the Catalyst monitor. Searching for this topic is how i came about this thread. i'm having the same issue. smog due the next of this month. ugh.

so does anyone know of any other drive cycle to ok this other than driving 48-54mph for 3 minutes? Doesn't seem to work for me.
